Archivists who work directly with unique collections, as well as librarians and other professionals who coordinate digitization, generally agree that access should be prioritized. However, each group has its own goals, standards, and timelines that may conflict with those of their colleagues. The push to maximize access to collections may, in some cases, go so far as to influence collecting policies. Is the lure of rapid digitization affecting best practices of arrangement and description? Despite the rapidly changing information and technology landscape, collections remain at the heart of academic libraries, signifying their enduring importance in providing access to our cultural heritage. Ghosts In The Archive: The Textual Lacunæ Of The Third Franklin Expedition, Kathleen Kasten-Mutkus

The paucity of the extant written record left by the Third Franklin Expedition (1845−1848) has presented challenges to the efforts of generations of searchers and scholars. Additionally, it has underscored the reliance of Western culture on written records when establishing narratives and understanding events. This paper explores the sparse written records of the expedition in the context of their contextualisation over the years within an ersatz Franklin archive which includes a variety of discourses and documentary intents. By situating the Franklin records within an archival context, it is possible to reconsider these materials as part of a collection while also …

Since 2015, the UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center (UK SCRC) has offered “archives basics” workshops for community-based organizations in central Kentucky. These workshops, titled “History Allies: Helping Protect Your Past,” are free and open to the public and often hosted in partnership with area public libraries. Attendees have been from African American churches, LGBTQIA organizations, genealogical groups, museums, and more. Topics include the historical value of organizational records, selecting records for permanent retention, inventorying and storing physical and digital records, providing access to researchers, managing volunteers and volunteer projects, digitization methods and standards, and outreach and exhibits. This research examines a lawsuit filed by the Rosenbach Museum and Library of Philadelphia in 2016 against the Estate of Maurice Sendak (1928–2012) to determine the distribution of some of Sendak’s collection of rare books. In the lawsuit, the Rosenbach claimed the executors of the Sendak estate had withheld a portion of the rare books to which it was entitled under Sendak’s will. This paper suggests possible ways in which institutions such as libraries, archives, and museums might anticipate and address some of the ownership-related problems that arise during the acquisition and/or loss of collections of an artist or author …

Games-based learning is a new concept that is used for teaching information literacy skills, which so far has been mostly given in classrooms and is one-way. The respondents taken were all new students participating in games-based learning activities, in 2018. In the implementation of games-based learning divided into 5 posts, where each post represents one information literacy skill material. The results are as follows identification of information (3.46), access to information (3.59), using information (3.36), synthesis (3.52) and plagiarism (3.55). This article discusses about information seeking behavior of 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 26 Jakarta to pursue higher education. This article also discusses obstacles found during the process of information searching. This is a qualitative research with observation and interview as methods to collect data. The result shows that all informants conducted searching about higher education in the same way with what was stated by David Ellis (1993) started with starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, extracting, verifying, and ending.

This article describes the distinct of privacy and security issues that are simultaneously operant in the KMS practices. It identifies several perceptions of privacy and security issues in the company’s KMS settings. By studying the perspective, authors provide a conceptual directions to the fog of misunderstandings around privacy and security in company’s KMS settings. An exploratory sequential mixed method research design was adopted. A questionnaire survey was administered by authors personally handing to KM staff in three companies, followed by semi-structure interviews with four KM staff.
