Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To enhance the safety in case of engine flameout failure, a new type of UAV takeoff decision based on neural network capacity model was proposed. Two capacity parameters of takeoff safety in case of engine flameout failure were defined, one is the maximum velocity for a safe takeoff and the other is the minimum velocity for a safe shut down. A calculation method based on iterative simulations for those parameters under multiple flight conditions was introduced. Double layer neural networks were used to model the relationship between flight conditions and the capacity parameters, to realize the compressive storage and …

A time-dependent convolutional encoder-decoder architecture is adopted. The model considers as an input a satellite image …

Cognition And Context-Aware Computing: Towards A Situation-Aware System With A Case Study In Aviation, Justin C. Wilson 2020 Southern Methodist University

Cognition And Context-Aware Computing: Towards A Situation-Aware System With A Case Study In Aviation, Justin C. Wilson

Computer Science and Engineering Theses and Dissertations

In aviation, flight instructors seek to comprehend the intent and awareness of their students. With this awareness, derived from in-flight observation and post-flight examination, a human instructor can infer the internal contexts of their student aviators as they perform. It is this understanding that is fundamental for evaluating student development. Further, a well-understood construct for describing the state of knowledge about a dynamic environment is known as situational awareness (SA). Often pilot error is associated with SA [80], and it is fundamental to flight safety and mission execution. If these contexts can be automatically inferred, instructors and students can more …

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The current methods of human action recognition by computer vision are mostly based on hand-craft features and usually prior knowledge-required. They inevitably depend on specific applications and neglect the inner structure of visional information. A novel method which integrated self-learned pose features and combined posture symbol rules was proposed to achieve the recognition of human action more efficiently. The structural features of posture silhouette were extracted and a codebook of primary posture was built through the establishment of a sparse auto-encoder network. Then, in the phase of recognition, the Hidden Markov Model was employed to train the models …

Group-Based Image Compositing In Heterogeneous Environments, Liu Ning, Dengming Zhu, Zhaoqi Wang, Wei Yi

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Image compositing requires dense inter-node communications and could easily become the bottleneck of a parallel visualization system. Conventional image compositing algorithms assume the environment is homogeneous and take no heterogeneity into consideration. In a heterogeneous environment, this assumption is likely to cause unreasonable load distribution among the nodes. To address this problem, we present a group-based image compositing algorithm in heterogeneous environments. It is able to distribute the workloads among the nodes according to computing and networking characteristics of the heterogeneous environments. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation on the ns-3 network simulator. Experiment results shows that when the environment …
