The present paper deals with the wavelet transform of fractional integral operator (the Riemann- Liouville operators) on Boehmian spaces. By virtue of the existing relation between the wavelet transform and the Fourier transform, we obtained integrable Boehmians defined on the Boehmian space for the wavelet transform of fractional integrals.

A collocation procedure is developed for the linear and nonlinear Volterra integral equations, using the globally defined Sinc and auxiliary basis functions. We analytically show the exponential convergence of the Sinc collocation method for approximate solution of Volterra integral equations. Numerical examples are included to confirm applicability and justify rapid convergence of our method.

In this paper, we present a comparative study of Sinc-Galerkin method and differential transform method to solve Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem. As an application, a comparison between the two methods for various celebrated Sturm-Liouville problems are analyzed for their eigenvalues and solutions. The study outlines the significant features of the two methods. The results show that these methods are very efficient, and can be applied to a large class of problems. The comparison of the methods shows that although the numerical results of these methods are the same, differential transform method is much easier, and more efficient than the Sinc-Galerkin method.

A similarity solution is proposed for the analysis of steady free convection heat and mass transfer over a stretching sheet. The effect of radiation, chemical reaction and variable viscosity on hydromagnetic heat and mass transfer in the presence of magnetic field are investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to the ordinary differential equations using similarity variables, and then solved numerically by means of the fourth-order Runge– Kutta method with shooting technique. The problem of finding an efficient algorithm to create a two-dimensional embedding of a knot diagram is not an easy one. Typically, knots with a large number of crossings will not nicely generate two-dimensional drawings. This thesis presents an efficient algorithm to generate a knot and to create a nice two-dimensional embedding of the knot. For the purpose of this thesis a drawing is “nice” if the number of tangles in the diagram consisting of half-twists is minimal. Declining interests in classical music have left many performances based organizations scrambling to maintain subscriptions rates, ticket revenue and attendance. The Binghamton Philharmonic has a substantial single ticket buyer base which if converted to subscribers, would secure revenue and attendance to each season. This study explores the motivations and attendance levels of Binghamton Philharmonic single ticket buyer population. Using frequency distribution charts, cross-tabular analysis and independent samples t-tests, variables of motivation were compared to the single ticket and subscriber population.This project discusses the factors affecting single ticket buyer motivations for attendance, effective methods for encouraging greater attendance, and provides an …

A general finite element method is presented to solve the Euler equations in a Lagrangian reference frame. This FEM framework allows for separate arbitrarily high order representation of kinematic and thermodynamic variables. An accompanying hydrodynamics code written in Matlab is presented as a test-bed to experiment with various basis function choices. A wide range of basis function pairs are postulated and a few choices are developed further, including the bi-quadratic Q2-Q1d and Q2-Q2d elements. Portfolio selection problems with combinatorially-large alternative sets can be impossible to evaluate precisely on a reasonable timescale. When portfolios require complex modeling for performance assessment, prohibitive computational processing times can result. Eliminating a small number of alternatives through an intelligent screening process can greatly reduce the number of alternative combinations, thereby decreasing a problem's evaluation time and cost. A methodology was developed for the class of hierarchical portfolio selection problems in which multiple objectives are all judged on the same sub-objectives. We address the problem of aligning the 3D structures of two proteins. Our pairwise comparisons are based on a new optimization model that is succinctly expressed in terms of linear transformations and highlights the problem’s intrinsic geometry. The optimization problem is approximately solved with a new polynomial time algorithm. The worst case analysis of the algorithm shows that the solution is bounded by a constant depending only on the data of the problem.

We study long-wave Marangoni convection in a layer heated from below. Using the scaling k=O Bi, where k is the wave number and Bi is the Biot number, we derive a set of amplitude equations. Analysis of this set shows presence of monotonic and oscillatory modes of instability. Oscillatory mode has not been previously found for such direction of heating. Studies of weakly nonlinear dynamics demonstrate that stable steady and oscillatory patterns can be found near the stability threshold.

This paper presents a generalized model for simulating wavefields associated with the sea surface. This includes the case when `freak waves' may occur through an effect compounded in the nonlinear (cubic) Schrodinger equation. After providing brief introductions to linear sea wave models, `freak waves' and the linear and nonlinear Schrodinger equations, we present a unified model that provides for a piecewise continuous transition from a linear to a nonlinear state. The purpose of this paper is to incorporate well-established ecological principles into a foodweb model consisting of four trophic levels --- abiotic resources, plants, herbivores, and carnivores. The underlining principles include Kimura's neutral theory of genetic evolution, Liebig's Law of the Minimum for plant growth, Holling's functionals for herbivore foraging and carnivore predation, the One-Life Rule for all organisms, and Lotka-Volterra's model for intraand interspecific competitions. The basic time scales for current-induced net transport of surface water and associated time scales of reaching the nearshore in the Gulf of Finland, the Baltic Sea, are analysed based on Lagrangian trajectories of water particles reconstructed from three-dimensional velocity fields by the Rossby Centre circulation model for 1987–1991. The number of particles reaching the nearshore exhibits substantial temporal variability whereas the rate of leaving the gulf is almost steady. It is recommended to use an about 3 grid cells wide nearshore area as a substitute to the coastal zone and about 10–15 day long trajectories for calculations of the …

Results of numerical experiments are presented in order to compare direct numerical calculations of wave propagation in a laminate with prescribed properties and corresponding results obtained for an effective medium with the microstructure modelling. These numerical experiments allowed us to analyse the advantages and weaknesses of the microstructure model.

The Gibbs phenomenon refers to the lack of uniform convergence which occurs in many orthogonal basis approximations to piecewise smooth functions.
