Ibuprofen is a medication in the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug class that is used for treating pain, fever, and inflammation. It can be used by mouth or intravenous. It typically begins working within an hour. Usual adult dose for pain or fever is 200 to 400 mg orally every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Side effects include nausea, dyspepsia, diarrhea, constipation, gastrointestinal ulceration/bleeding, headache, dizziness, rash, salt and fluid retention, and high blood pressure. In this work, the influence of graphene nanoribbons (GNs), graphene nanoplatelets (GNPls), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene oxide (GO) as a modifier on the properties of screen-printed carbon electrodes towards electrochemical determination of riboflavin (VB2) is investigated. Additionally, ionic liquid (IL, 1-Butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium tetra fluoroborate), iron(II) phthalocyanine (FePc) and Nafion were added into the modifier suspensions and further tested for their electro-catalytic effect. Their performance as modifier is compared to unmodified screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE). Introduction: Recognition of Drug-induced Liver Injury (DILI) may be challenging as it is often diagnosis of exclusion, unavailability of diagnostic test and variability in presentation. Many antibiotics can cause DILI but Amoxicillin-Clavulanate has rare adverse reaction causing mixed cholestatic-hepatocellular injury. Since amoxicillin alone does not induce liver injury, combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid could be responsible for this adverse reaction. It can be due to metabolic idiosyncrasy or hypersensitivity mechanism. Case Report: 64-year-old female with no pertinent PMH presented to ER with abdominal pain and jaundice. This paper examines network prominence in a co-prescription network as an indicator of opioid doctor shopping (i.e., fraudulent solicitation of opioids from multiple prescribers). Using longitudinal data from a large commercially insured population, we construct a network where a tie between patients is weighted by the number of shared opioid prescribers. Given prior research suggesting that doctor shopping may be a social process, we hypothesize that active doctor shoppers will occupy central structural positions in this network. Background: Hypoglycemia is a rare adverse effect of tramadol that is described in the medical literature and package insert. Objective: The purpose of this study was to review reports of tramadol and hypoglycemia in the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database to determine a potential association. Methods: Disproportionality analysis with Bayesian correction was used to compare tramadol and hypoglycemia with other medications in FAERS. Background:

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines recommends administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics within 1 hour of sepsis diagnosis; electronic order sets drive antibiotic selection with pre-populated regimens based on the suspected infectious indication. Given the low rate of cephalosporin cross-reactivity in patients with a PCN allergy, we modified our ED sepsis order set (Images 1 and 2) to include cephalosporin options in patients with reported mild-to-moderate PCN reaction histories. This was a single-center, retrospective analysis evaluating the impact of this change on antibiotic prescribing and associated outcomes.

Background:

Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) is associated with 30-day all-cause mortality rates approaching 20–30%. The purpose of this case–control study was to evaluate risk factors for 30-day mortality in patients with SAB at a community hospital.

Methods:

As part of an antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) initiative mandating Infectious Diseases consultation for episodes of SAB, our ASP prospectively monitored all cases of SAB at a 341-bed community hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA from April 2017–February 2019. While the U.S. makes up around 5% of the world’s population, we consume approximately 75% of the world’s prescription drugs—well over 4 billion prescriptions per year. Approximately one third of those are never used, creating an array of public health challenges. These challenges include land and water pollution; unintentional inappropriate use and unintentional human, pet, and wildlife poisonings; and intentional drug abuse and diversion. Misuse of prescription drugs now exceeds that of all illegal drugs combined. The opioid epidemic has become one of our nation’s largest public health crises.
