Background: Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease triggered by the dysbiosis of the subgingival microbiome. 16s rRNA sequencing has been used to profile the subgingival plaque samples in healthy and periodontitis subjects. Here, we have collected subgingival plaque samples from subjects and analyzed the microbiome profile from 16s rRNA sequencing. We hypothesized that periodontitis patients will have a different subgingival microbiome profile than that of healthy subjects.

Periodontitis disproportionately affects genetic ancestral/ethnic groups. To characterize the oral microbiome from different genetic ancestral/ethnic groups, we collected 161 dental plaque samples from self-identified African Americans (AAs), Caucasian Americans (CAs), and Hispanic Americans (HAs) with clinical gingival health or biofilm-induced gingivitis on an intact periodontium. DNA was extracted from these samples, and then DNA libraries were prepared and sequenced using an Illumina NovaSeq high-throughput sequencer. We found significant differences in the diversity and abundance of microbial taxa among dental plaque samples of the AA, CA, and HA groups. Objective: This study determined the effects of vibrational forces on bone formation in the retention period of an expanded mid-palatal, histomorphometric suture in a rat model. Methods: Twenty-four 7–8- to 8-week-old male Wistar rats weighing 190.25 ± 15.35 g were separated into groups: only expansion (G1), expansion and 30 Hz vibration application (G2), and expansion and 111 Hz vibration application (G3). Objective: This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, oral hygiene practice, and self-perception of periodontal health among the older adult population in Malaysia and its association with demographic factors. Methods: An online questionnaire assessing their knowledge, attitude, oral hygiene practices, and self-perception of periodontal disease was distributed to adults aged 50 years and above. Recently, statin treatment applied locally into tissues during both surgical and nonsurgical procedures exhibiting a positive effect on various parameters of periodontal tissue health. When looking at this novel, not yet commonly utilized approach to the local application of statins as an adjunct to periodontal treatment, early studies have shown significant improvement in clinical parameters, such as probing depth and clinical attachment levels. This method of local statin delivery into the tissue shows promise, and should be explored by further research.

Context: Oil pulling has multiple oral health benefits toward gingival and overall health. Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of oil pulling using sesame and coconut oils. Settings and Design: JSS High School, Suttur, Nanjangud Taluk, Mysuru Randomised controlled double-blinded parallel-arm study. Methods and Material: Participants selected were divided into four groups randomly. Mouth rinse bottles containing coconut oil, sesame oil, chlorhexidine and placebo were coded and distributed. Follow up was done on the seventh day and fourteenth day. Results: The study groups showed statistically significant difference. Conclusions: Oil pulling is effective in oral plaque control.
