Bridging Autism Care: Dental And Occupational Therapy School Collaboration, Trina Hoang, Divya Desai

Oral Health

This study examines the interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and occupational therapy schools to support dental education on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). An occupational therapy student created a recorded training module to educate international dental students on ASD. The participants completed a self-reported pre- and post-survey questionnaire examining their confidence levels in interacting with the ASD population and their awareness of other healthcare professions. The survey results showed improvements in confidence levels for identifying characteristics of ASD, communicating with clients with ASD, identifying sensory-based strategies, navigating uncooperative behaviors, and providing education for at-home care. The objective of this study is to investigate and compare the effect of cannabidiol (CBD)-containing and non-CBD topical anesthetic gel prototypes on skin irritation in rabbits at 24, 48, and 72 h post-application. Topical anesthetic gel prototypes containing 0.1% CBD and without CBD were developed. Six rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were used for skin irritation testing according to ISO 10993-23: 2021. The animals were randomly and equally divided into two groups (CBD and non-CBD gel groups). The gels were applied to the animals’ skin at the dorsal area of the flank with good contact for 4 h. Music influences emotion, physiology, and cognition, yet little is known about how the frequency it is tuned to affects these influences. Prior research has shown that music tuned to 432 Hz can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep. My colleagues and I conducted two studies to investigate this. Our research found that music tuned to 432 Hz promotes a significant increase in memory retention and induces a state of focus and relaxation. These results suggest that shifting from the standard tuning frequency of 440 Hz to 432 Hz could have a profoundly positive impact on our daily lives. …

Purpose

The use of translucent monolithic zirconia crowns in implant dentistry raises concerns about the underlying abutment color affecting esthetic outcomes. While abutment effects are documented for traditional ceramics, data are limited for modern monolithic zirconia. The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate how abutment material and zirconia brand influence the final color of translucent monolithic zirconia crowns.

The patient delayed treatment for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and fear of surgery. Upon return, the lesion had greatly expanded in size (approximately 22-by-17 mm), with increased root resorption. Surgery involved extraction of the tooth and thorough curettage of the lesion. The endosteum is a thin layer of connective tissue lining the inner surfaces of bones adjoining the medullary cavity. The endosteum houses a variety of cells crucial for bone growth, repair and remodelling, including bone-forming osteoblasts, bone-resorbing osteoclasts and their precursor cells. Historically, the endosteum has been extensively studied as a key site for haematopoiesis by which blood cells are incessantly produced. However, recent studies have defined the endosteum as a niche for skeletal stem cells, underscoring the importance of the harmony between the inner endosteum and the outer periosteum in maintaining bone homeostasis.
