Objective. This paper aims to quantify the effect of wire material, dimension, and deflection on the most identifiable feature of the six-geometries: the moment dissociation point (force system with no moment on the lesser angled bracket), which may or may not occur at the classically defined geometry IV. Statement of problem

The die contour can affect the emergence profile of prosthetic restorations. However, little information is available regarding the congruency between a stereolithographic (SLA) die and its corresponding natural tooth.

Purpose

The purpose of this vitro study was to evaluate the shapes of SLA die in comparison with the subgingival contour of a prepared tooth to be restored with a ceramic crown.

Material and methods

Four cases of cutaneous S-100 negative granular cell tumor were described in 1991. Until now, only 3 cases of oral involvement have been documented in English literature. Two additional cases of oral S-100 negative granular cell tumor are described. Immunohistochemical markers were applied to exclude other lesions that may show the presence of granular cells. The clinical findings were correlated with the histopathological and immunohistochemical features to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis. S-100 negative granular cell tumors are erythematous polypoid masses commonly mistaken for granulation tissue or a pyogenic granuloma. Any part of the oral cavity may be affected. The purpose of this dissertation was to present state-level estimates of hospital-based emergency department (ED) visits with dental conditions across all ages in the states of California, Nebraska, and New York. Also, this dissertation examined the outcomes and impact of changes in Medicaid policies on the utilization of ED with dental problems. State Emergency Department Databases (California, Nebraska, and New York), a component of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) was used for this dissertation. This study furthers understanding of how trauma exposure may be connected to the development and maintenance of poor health by focusing on cytokines, tightly regulated proteins of the immune system. Cytokine responses to acute stress have been associated with the onset of poorer mental health in physically healthy women. The present study examined how two factors recently associated with cytokine reactivity –cumulative trauma and emotion reactivity– are associated with salivary cytokine reactivity among healthy women. Seventy-one women, screened to be physically and mentally healthy, completed a laboratory acute stress paradigm and self-report measures of state emotion and trauma exposure. Participants …

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of dental magnification loupes on posture during instrumentation.

Methods: A convenience sample of 27 right-handed dental hygienists, with no prior history of injuries or disabilities of the head, neck, or trunk region, enrolled in the study. Baseline posture calibration was taken and tri-axial accelerometers were placed on four locations of the head and trunk (occipital region of head; cervical vertebrae C5; thoracic vertebrae T5; lumbar vertebrae L1) to measure acceleration and the orientation of the body to gravity. Study Design: A cross-sectional study design was conducted by emailing a survey to dental hygiene program directors nationwide.

Objective: Evaluate the integration of oil pulling curriculum among associate, bachelor’s, and masters programs.

Methods: A 10-question survey was delivered to dental hygiene program directors in the United States via an online survey tool, Survey Monkey.

Results: Oil pulling is taught in nine out of fifty-two schools that responded. Five of thirty-two associate programs are teaching oil pulling, three of fifteen bachelor’s programs are teaching oil pulling, and one out of five master programs is teaching oil pulling, the sample size …

Great attention has been given to the study of radiolucent periapical lesions to avert possible misdiagnosis of apical periodontitis associated with certain radiolucent non-endodontic lesions. However, there are a significant number of radiopaque lesions found in the periapical region, which could be equally relevant to endodontic practice. The diagnosis and management of these radiopaque/hyperdense lesions could be challenging to the endodontist. These bone alterations could be neoplastic, dysplastic or of metabolic origin. Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign tumor that usually affects the kidney. Extrarenal AML is uncommon. Intraoral AML is extremely rare and only 13 cases have been reported in the English-language literature. Although oral AML shares the terminology with renal AML, it presents as solitary mass not associated with tuberous sclerosis complex and is negative for human melanoma marker HMB-45. This article reports a rare case of intraoral AML presenting on the hard palate of a 52-year-old male patient. It has been 10 years since Featherstone and colleagues presented their evidence-based model of caries management: caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA). This approach relies on a careful analysis of a patients’ risk factors and protective factors. International and national organizations have long recognized the need for a new caries classification system that incorporates evidence-based approaches to halt progression of caries lesions and minimize the need for surgical intervention.
