Update On Colorado Non-Compete Agreements For Dentists, Josh Austin

Colorado’s Senate Bill 25-083 (SB 83) makes non-compete and non-solicitation agreements unenforceable for associate dentists, regardless of compensation. While non-competes tied to the sale of a dental practice or minority ownership remain valid if reasonable, most employment-based restrictions are now void. The law also preserves dentists’ rights to inform patients of their new practice and maintains penalties for non-compliance.

Background: Early detection of oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cavity cancer can improve patient prognosis. The guideline panel addressed the use of cytology adjuncts to screen adults without mucosal abnormalities and determine the need for biopsy among adults with mucosal abnormalities.

Types of studies reviewed: The guideline panel used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation Evidence to Decision framework to formulate recommendations. The authors conducted reviews to assess the benefits and harms of cytology adjuncts and people and clinician values and preferences as they relate to adjunct tests and biopsy of mucosal abnormalities. Racial Disparities Among Pregnant Women Of Color And Their High Risk For Developing Periodontal Disease, Darrylnn Mayo

This qualitative study explored the oral health experiences of four women of color during their pregnancies. Data was collected through interviews and presented as case studies. Although existing literature indicated that pregnant women of color are at a higher risk for developing periodontal disease, the participants in this case study reported actively engaging with their dental care providers, daily intake of prenatal vitamins with practice of self-oral care, and compliance with oral hygiene instructions. Further studies should investigate larger sample populations with broader minority ethnic groups to help explore the determinants of racial disparities and strategize ways to reduce barriers …

Abstract

Background: Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use among adults has risen rapidly over the past decade, prompting concern about potential adverse effects on oral health. Although the systemic consequences of e-cigarette exposure have been increasingly studied, effects on the oral mucosa remain less clearly defined. Existing investigations describe a range of oral mucosal findings, but reported outcomes and assessment methods are inconsistent, making it difficult to draw clear conclusions.

Objectives: To systematically review the available evidence examining the association between electronic cigarette use and oral mucosal lesions/alterations in adults, compared with non-users or other tobacco exposure groups.

Objective: To quantify transparency gaps in orthodontic randomized controlled trials by linking trial registry records to publications and characterizing timing of registration, publication delay, and selective outcome reporting signals using automated text-based methods.
Methods: A retrospective computational audit was designed around trial registries (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov and other major registries used in orthodontics) and bibliographic records. Registry entries marked completed were programmatically screened for publication linkage using identifier matching (e.g., registration IDs) and document-similarity approaches aligned with prior registry-publication linkage research. Objectives: This review aims to examine the overall effects of e-cigarettes on oral health, including its associations with xerostomia, dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral cancer.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted using databases like PubMed, ScienceDirect, NIH, and MDPI, analyzing many studies published between 2010-2025. Inclusion criteria consisted of peer-reviewed human and in-vitro studies that evaluated the oral effects of e-cigarettes. Studies were screened for correlation to caries formation, salivary changes, mucosal alterations, microbiome disruptions, and carcinogenic potential.

Methods: A retrospective computational audit was conducted using U.S. FDA MAUDE medical device report narratives related to orthodontic appliances, with a focus on clear aligners (including Invisalign and direct-to-consumer sequential aligners). Background:
Zinc plays an important role in enzymatic and inflammatory processes that may influence periodontal health. The relationship between zinc intake and periodontitis remains insufficiently characterized in adults without diabetes.
Methods:
A population-based adult sample was analyzed to examine the association between zinc intake from dietary and supplemental sources and periodontal disease, adjusting for relevant demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and health-related factors.
Results:
Zinc intake patterns varied across population subgroups and were associated with periodontal outcomes after accounting for potential confounders. Adequate zinc intake was consistently linked to more favorable periodontal status.

Accurate preoperative diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is difficult, complicating distinction between septic and aseptic failures. This study assessed the value of common serum biomarkers and three calculated ratios-albumin-globulin ratio (AGR), C-reactive protein-albumin ratio (CAR), and C-reactive protein-AGR ratio (CAGR)-in diagnosing PJI after primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing revision THA for PJI or aseptic failure from 2011 to 2021 at a single institution.
