The New York State Dental Journal

Mucoceles are the quotidian, benign minor salivary gland lesions of the oral mucosa. They result from the accumulation of mucous secretion due to trauma or alteration of minor salivary glands. Clinically they are characterized by bluish, dome shaped, soft and fluctuant physiognomy with most frequent occurrence reported on the lower lip. Based on the histological features they are of two varieties mucous extravasation and retention cysts. Various treatment modalities including surgery, laser ablation, electrosurgery, marsupialization, cryosurgery, intra-lesional injections and corticosteroids have been reported in literature. In the present case, a mucosal preservation technique was used in conjunction with an 810nm …

News You Need: Reminder: What You Must Know About Antitrust Law, Dan Schulte Jd

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This reminder emphasizes the critical importance for dentists, particularly members of organizations like the Michigan Dental Association, to understand antitrust laws and their implications. The U.S. Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission actively pursue antitrust violations among physicians and dentists. The article outlines key aspects of the Sherman Antitrust Act, emphasizing that joint activities among independent dentists that restrain competition may lead to violations. The concept of joint action and the restraint on competition are explored, with a focus on potential pitfalls, such as price-fixing and group boycotts. Dentists are urged to stay informed to avoid legal consequences.

A Study In Fresh Human Cadaver Heads Examining The Incidence Of Maxillary Sinus Membrane Perforation During Crestal Sinus Elevation Comparing Osteotomes To Osseodensification Drills., Thaer Alqadoumi

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Introduction: Crestal sinus membrane elevation technique is a surgical procedure that helps gain vertical bone volume when there is a pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. Due to some visual limitations inherent to the procedure, the potential for maxillary sinus membrane perforations and subsequent complications exists. A crestal sinus lift using osseodensification drills has been used lately but there are not many studies to support the protocol. The primary aim of the study is to evaluate the incidence of sinus membrane perforation during Osseodensification compared to the incidence of bone added crestal sinus elevation using osteotomes (BAOSFE). The secondary aim …

Associations Between The Movement Of Hard And Soft Tissues After Orthodontic Proclination Of Incisors, Scott Beard 2022 Marquette University

Associations Between The Movement Of Hard And Soft Tissues After Orthodontic Proclination Of Incisors, Scott Beard

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Objective: As orthodontic treatment planning has evolved throughout its history, there has been an increased emphasis on the facial soft tissues. Little has been done to study the effects that proclination of the incisors has on the soft tissue profile. The purpose of this study was to 1) determine if there are significant changes of lip projection and shape with proclination of incisors, and 2) determine if there are significant associations between the movement of the hard and soft tissues after proclination of the incisors. The null hypothesis is that there is no statistically different changes and associations between hard …

10-Minute Ebd: Preferred Analgesia For Orthodontic Tooth Movement: Acetaminophen Or Nsaids?, Ryan N. Mcgovern

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This 10-Minute EBD column explores the choice between acetaminophen and NSAIDs for managing pain during orthodontic tooth movement. The author presents a scenario involving a patient's discomfort after archwire adjustment and delves into the impact of tooth movement on the periodontium. The PICO question focuses on the effectiveness of NSAIDs and acetaminophen in controlling discomfort without impeding tooth movement. The literature search reveals varying recommendations on analgesics, with some studies favoring acetaminophen. The evidence suggests that acetaminophen and short-term celecoxib are suitable choices for orthodontic analgesia. However, caution is advised in extrapolating findings from animal studies to human conditions.
