This work attempted to evaluate the rotifer species diversity indices of Camp Balloki Water Park and infer the state of the water according to rotifers and physicochemical parameters. The diversity indices, species richness, and evenness were assessed every month. The ShannonWeaver index indicated that this habitat had great diversity of rotifers throughout the year. These results were supported by the Simpson dominance, diversity, and reciprocal indices. Water and plankton samples were taken monthly from January 2006 to December 2006. Sampling for this survey was performed in 5 stations located in the bays of Sürmene and Rize in the eastern Black Sea between April and October 2006. During the sampling, the quantities and distributions of eggs and larvae of anchovies (Engraulis encrasicolus) and horse mackerel (Trachurus mediterraneus) were determined. For horizontal towing carried out from the surface (05 m), a plankton net of 50 cm in diameter and 500 µm mesh. Neocaeculus imperfectus new species is described from material collected on Barrow Island, Western Australia. Keys to genera and Australasian species of Caeculidae are provided, and the relationship between the genera Neocaeculus and Microcaeculus is discussed. We use five years of data from 18 routes surveyed to determine the temporal stability of a first reported 100 years pattern, and reconfirmed that the abundance of winter 50 years ago tailed Hawk and American Kestrel decreases with increasing latitude, being more high in the central regions of Illinos in the northern regions. Trained volunteers conducted sampling ( n = 143) a month driving along selected routes from December to February, from 2004-2005 to 2008-2009. Three new neotropical Trachyuropoda species are described and illustrated. A new species (T. darwini sp. nov.) from the neotropical Trachyuropoda arculata-group was collected in the Galápagos Islands. Two new species (T. bali sp. nov. and T. extremica sp. nov.) were collected in Colombia. T. bali sp. nov. belongs to the mostly tropical Trachyuropoda graeca-group; the other Colombian species (T. extremica sp. nov.) is a member of the widely distributed Trachyuropoda bostocki-group.

The morphology, ciliature, and silverline system of a new ciliate, Frontonia anatolica n. sp., isolated from the bottom sediment of the eastern shore of Lake Van, a large alkaline lake in Eastern Anatolia Turkey, were investigated using live and silver impregnation methods. The morphology of the 1st and 2nd larval instars of A. immaturus (Mulsant, 1842) is described and illustrated here for the first time, with an emphasis on the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, and last abdominal segments. The cephalic capsule size was employed to determine the larval instar, while the genital disc was employed to assess the sex of the larvae. The growth and sex ratio of A. immaturus were analyzed.

Age and growth of swordfish, Xiphias gladius, were determined from 205 specimens (total n = 1408), collected from onboard a swordfish fishery fleet and from a wholesale fish market between June 2008 and July 2011. The length and weight distribution of all fish samples ranged from 51 to 242 cm and from 0.85 to 171.0 kg, respectively. The 70-80 cm lower jaw fork length range of swordfish had the highest ratio (approximately 57%). The length-weight relationship showed a positive allometric growth (b = 3.32; r^2 = 0.969). This study was carried out to determine some biological characteristics of Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda Bloch, 1793) from the Gallipoli Peninsula and Dardanelles (northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey) between September 2006 and October 2009. The suid remains from localities 58-HAY-2 and 58-HAY-19 in the Late Miocene Derindere Member of the İncesu Formation in the Hayranlı-Haliminhanı area (Sivas, Turkey) are described and referred to as Microstonyx major (Gervais, 1848-1852). Microstonyx shows changes in incisor morphology, which are interpreted as a further adaptation to rooting. This occurred probably in a short period between 8.7 and 8.121 Ma ago and possibly is a reaction to environmental change. The incisor morphology in locality 58-HAY-2 suggests that it is temporally close to this change, which would imply that this locality and the lithostratigraphically lower 58-HAY-19 belong to the lower …

Six specimens of Podarcis siculus hieroglyphicus from Filyos, Zonguldak Province, in the western Black Sea region were collected. This new record extended eastward seriously (ca. 250 km) the known distribution area of the subspecies in Turkey. The meristic (pholidolial) and metric (morphometric) characters and color-pattern features of specimens collected from Filyos, Zonguldak, are given in detail and compared with the specimens from other known Turkish localities with regard to the literature. The specimens examined were similar to P. siculus hieroglyphicus specimens mentioned in the literature.

This study was conducted to investigate helminth parasites of spotted newt (Neurergus strauchii) in Bingöl Province in 2010. Twenty-seven spotted newts were collected from a stream in the vicinity of Soğukpınar village located in the Genç district of Bingöl. Two species of helminthes were found from the collected samples. These are Cosmocerca commutata and Aplectana acuminata. This paper is the second study on spotted newt (Neurergus strauchii) in Turkey, but Aplectana acuminata is a new record for the host (N. strauchii) in Turkish helminth fauna.

A new species of freshwater amphipod, Gammarus baysali sp. nov., collected from Cumayanı Cave (Zonguldak Province, Turkey) is described and illustrated. The new species belongs to the Gammarus pulex-group. The most discriminant characters of this species are the minute eyes, densely setose fifth peduncle and flagellar segments of antenna 2, elongated pereopods, and setose anterior margins of pereopod 5 to 7. Additionally, the palp of right maxilla 1 has 4 setae along its outer margin. A detailed morphological description and illustrations of the new species are provided, and differences from related species are discussed.

The growth and reproduction of brown comber (Serranus hepatus Linnaeus, 1758) were studied using specimens collected from the central Aegean Sea between July 2004 and June 2007. A total of 2410 specimens were analyzed, and of those, 2290 individuals were mature and 120 individuals were juvenile. Analyses covered all individuals because the species is a simultaneous hermaphrodite. The length-weight relationship was determined as W = 0.013L^{3.11}, indicating a positive allometric growth for all samples. The present work reports on the effects of low pH values on the mortality of 3 freshwater zooplankton available in the freshwater ponds of Midnapore district. Acute bioassay tests on Daphnia lumholtzi, Moina brachiata, and Heliodiaptomus viduus to varying acidic pH levels of water were performed in the laboratory using serial grades of hydrochloric acid solution.
