We examined the mycorrhizal status of the rhizosphere of 14 common cultivars of tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa) in 3 different geographic locations in China. Root samples of all cultivars were colonized by AMF. The mean percentage of root length colonization, vesicles, and arbuscules were 39%, 3.6%, and 6.0%, respectively. AMF species richness varied from 5 to 11, and spore density ranged from 20 to 61 per 50 g of …
Evaluation Of Efficiency Parameters Of Phosphorous-Solubilizing And N-Fixing Bacteria Inoculations In Wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.), Sancar Bulut
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Chemical fertilizers play a significant role in increasing plant production; however, they may have a negative impact on soil fertility and cause environmental degradation in cases of excessive use. In addition, the highest levels in chemical fertilizer use have already been reached, and further yield increases do not seem possible. Due to their negative impact on soils and the environment, alternatives to chemical fertilizers are needed. Today, biological alternatives are yielding promising outcomes. Biological nitrogen fixation may constitute a significant alternative in organic farming. Therefore, in the present study, the effects of single, dual, and triple combinations of phosphorus-solubilizing [Bacillus …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Broad interest in reducing greenhouse gas emissions requires a better understanding of controls on carbon dioxide (CO_2) release under different agricultural management practices. The objective of this study was to investigate and model seasonal variation of soil CO_2 emissions from an apple orchard field (Malus domestica L. 'Starkrimson'). Soil CO_2 emissions from an apple orchard managed with common practices were measured weekly over a 3-year period (May 2008 to May 2011) from both under the crowns of trees (CO_2-UC) and between rows (CO_2-BR) using a soda lime technique and were modeled using available environmental data. The study area is located …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The study presents research results on the effect of creeping on changes in the rigidity of selected joints used in constructions of upholstered furniture, expressed as the substitute modulus of elasticity Ez. The modulus was calculated analytically for this purpose using the Maxwell-Mohr constitutive equation. In addition, actual runs of creeping curves were determined and a theoretical model well describing the obtained results was selected. Simultaneously, a detailed statistical analysis was carried out. It was found that creeping exerted a significant impact on the mechanical quality of the examined joints by reducing their substitute modulus of elasticity by 11%-16%. This …

The Effects Of U.S. Shrimp Imports On The Gulf Of Mexico Dockside Price : A Source Differentiated Mixed Demand Model, Maryam Tabarestani
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The ever increasing demand for the shrimp products in the 1980s and 1990s caused the volume of shrimp imports to increase. The import of shrimp has had an upward trend, from 847 million pounds in 1997 to 1,636 million pounds in 2010.The imports price has declined since 1997. Along with the decrease in imports price, the U.S. domestic shrimp price has also declined. However, the annual production of shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico has, in the long-run, remained relatively stable. These facts indicate that there is not the same quantity-price relation between the U.S. domestic shrimp market and shrimp …

Environmental Kuznets Curve In Water Pollution: A Semiparametric Approach, Mahesh Pandit
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The relationship between pollution and per capita income generally appears as an inverted U-shaped curve. This inverted U-shaped curve is known as the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC). The shape of the curve, however, is very sensitive to the data, location and pollutant considered in the analysis. Since the early 1990s, there has been an exponential growth in the number of empirical studies in this field, but many refute the inverted U-shaped nature of the curve for pollutants across different time periods and geographical regions. This has generated an increased interest in developing a more flexible functional form for model specification …

Hybrid aspen (Populus tremula L. Populus tremuloides Michx.) plantations are expanding in Fennoscandia and the Baltic countries; however, the possible effects of plantations on the native European aspen (P. tremula) and the level of gene flow between European and hybrid aspen have not been investigated. We studied seed quantity and quality in intraspecific and interspecific crosses of the European and hybrid aspens over a two year period. In order to study whether elevated temperatures due to climate change would benefit the species differently, we performed the crosses in different temperatures. In both years, interspecific crosses produced more seeds with higher …
