An Evaluation Of The Vocational Education Program In Stanton High School And Recommendations For Expansion, Marsha Bristow Todd

An evaluation and recommendations for change to the vocational education program at Stanton High School was conducted on the basis of existing programs, community needs survey, interviews with administration personnel, and a review of literature on vocational education. A survey of the 204 Class AA high schools was conducted to ascertain the type of vocational programs that were provided and the reasons for inclusion of each listed program. 166 responses were received. The accumulated data was then translated into tables showing what existed, what was being done elsewhere, and what was perceived as being needed.

This study was initiated to demonstrate how declining neighborhoods can be revitalized through the cooperation and Partnership of local residents, financial institutions, and local government. The Neighborhood II Conservation Plan assumes that interested and informed residents can plan their own environment just as they plan their own family affairs and budget their incomes. The plan further assumes that residents working together as a team can revitalize their neighborhood at the point of decline. This study pursues various approaches to neighborhood preservation which may be useful to other cities.

A Study Of The Career Maturity Of Low Socio-Economic Teenagers, Margaret Saunders

This experiment was a comparison of the pre and posttest scores of low socio-economic teenagers on Cirites' Career Maturity Inventory and the Gordon occupational Checklist. The experimental group was exposed to learning modules with emphasis on personal relations, problem-solving techniques, and decision-making methods. A MANOVA test revealed no significant differences between the pre and posttests on either the Career Maturity Inventory or the Gordon Occupational Checklist. There is an indication that these Subjects may need development in other areas as their career maturity is within the normal range. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation (1976), psoriasis is a little known and poorly understood skin disease afflicting an estimated eight million victims in the United States. About fifteen thousand new cases of psoriasis are diagnosed each year. It affects men and women in equal numbers at any age, most often between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five.

The advent of federal funding for rural social services during the late 1960s and 1970s brought about changes in the political organization of rural America. A host of new organizational actors, like Area Agencies on Aging and various local aging agencies were created in rural communities across the country, in the wake of Baker v. Carr with its “one man/one vote” principle and funding through programs like the Economic Opportunity Act and the Older Americans Act. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a small family counseling center as evaluated by the clients themselves. A questionnaire, designed and used by the National Family Service Association of America in 1970, was utilized as the measure for evaluation. A total of 46 clients comprised the sample group representing 25% of the population receiving questionnaires. Descriptive case data were collected and analyzed on the total population and compared to the sample. Results showed a marked deficiency in the number of minority and low-income groups both in requesting services and responding to the questionnaire. Agency services …

The project, which began in July 1976, and ended June 30, 1977, focused on ethnic groups in the area: Southern Appalachian, African-American and Native American. The collection includes a wide variety of material that could be used for research on York County and for instructional purposes by teachers. The collection consists of magazines, newspaper clippings, books, audio tapes, video cassettes, slides, transparencies, and copies of historical documents such as letters and land records.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate the attitude of elementary teachers toward direct participation and representative participation in educational decision-making. A population of elementary teachers from six elementary schools were given an attitude survey concerning involvement. The results of this study suggested that elementary teachers attached more importance to direct participation than representative decision-making concerning areas of instructional leadership. Teachers were more dispersed in their attitudes toward direct and representative participation in the areas of administrative leadership, school-community relations, and professional self-improvement

The document presents a review of relevant literature providing research findings relevant to problems concerning dropouts. Data for the document was obtained by sending a questionnaire to selected drop out students at Odessa High School. The results of the survey were organized into statistical data and reported in the document in tables and diagrams. The results of the survey imply a significant number of dropouts have a negative attitude about the treatment they received from school personnel, but school is generally regarded as a needed and good experience. This report attempts to determine the efficacy of using geographic impact areas as analytical sub-groups for the assessment of the impact of multi-purpose reservoir projects on target communities. The impact areas utilized are: the take area; the below-the-dam area; the urban area; and, the adjacent area. The terms "social work," "casework," and "counseling" signify similar but separate professions, occupations, and techniques. Their places within the spectrum of community or helping services are clarified by a discussion of relevant literature. Based on these perspectives, a survey of 104 local helping service agencies and organizations was under taken to establish employment qualifications (educational, experiential, professional) for the helping professions. Follow-up was done in 10 situations where Master's Degrees in Social Work, Counseling, and Psychology were required for employment—to determine the particular value of the degree for the specific position. This study is a follow-up to an earlier (1971) proposal for the application of Input-output analysis to social planning in human services (Repository item #753), and predates current models of human services as part of the nonprofit, or third sector. The manuscript details a study of financial inputs and service outputs in human services in the United Way system of Knoxville TN, noting a variety of quantitative ratios and measures of the human services delivery system, and assessing some of the strengths and weaknesses of the matrix approach.

The subject of this thesis is dope dealing in marijuana. However, the main interest in this topic is not centered on unique behavior patterns of persons engaged in this illegal activity nor is it much concerned with the activity itself. Rather, this study was designed to investigate empirically claims of labeling theorists and deviance theory. A typology was developed to demonstrate the relationship between the diverse theoretical explanations prevalent in riotous behavior research and the mode of data collection utilized for studying these theoretical explanations. The two principal variables identified are conceptual areas and methodological techniques. Migration histories of a sample of the population in a small urban place--Creel, Chihuahua, Mexico were analyzed and compared to the results from studies of several large urban places in Latin America to see if patterns of migration and factors associated with the migratory process are similar or different. Seven basic hypotheses obtained from prior theoretical works and empirical studies were investigated.

This report analyzes and describes the process of relocating individuals and families who must move due to reservoir construction in Kentucky utilizing data collected in previous research. These data come from four separate studies: a study of community attitudes toward reservoir construction (Johnson county where the Paintsville reservoir is to be constructed), interviews with people who are slated for relocation when the Taylorsville reservoir is constructed, and two sets of interviews with people who have already been relocated due to reservoir construction (Cave Run and Carr Fork).

An evaluation of the major program components at the local level as well as possible factors which contributed to the success of participants in the program suggest modifications in the implementation of future programs directed toward the disadvantaged.
