Gerald A. Notaro, librarian emeritus at USF St. Petersburg, donated his collection of photographs and ephemera from St. Pete Pride, an annual event in the Grand Central District that has grown into one of the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) celebrations in the southeastern United States. The rich collection of photographic images documents St. Pete Pride events in the early 2000s. Notaro donated these items on 15 March 2012, shortly before his retirement from the USFSP faculty.

This presentation elaborates on a 4-day regional disaster and preservation planning workshop held at the R. W. Steen Library May 14-17, 2012. It was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and brought 23 people from 11 different organizations together to learn about disaster and preservation planning from a Northeast Document and Conservation Center consultant. The PowerPoint explains the program director's thinking at all stages of the grant process—conceptualization, implementation and assessment.

The Truman G. Blocker, MD papers consists of news clippings, correspondence, and ephemera related to Truman G. Blocker's appointment or retirement to various positions late in his career including his appointment to the Osler Society and his retirement as president of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. This collection was received in June 2008 in bound notebooks from Karen A. White, the Regional Chancellor of USF St. Petersburg at the time and an accomplished violinist. Under the byline Mary Nic Shenk, Dodd wrote regular reviews of operas and musical performances in the St. Petersburg Times (now Tampa Bay Times) beginning in the early 1960s. This donation includes articles and clippings removed from bound notebooks collected by Shenk, covering the period from the early 1960s forward into the 1980s. Some clippings reside in clear plastic folders; others are glued onto white paper. Dodd graduated from the Eastman School …

Promoting awareness of the University Archives has evolved for me for the past six years as University Archivist. It started out as an idea that quickly grew into a wonderful relationship between the University Archives and the rest of UNLV. I originally promoted awareness through outreach services as a librarian in Oro Valley, Arizona. It was a nice way for the organization to get the word out about the new library in the neighborhood. The history of irrigation is significant in the western United States, which has now experienced over 150 years of irrigation development. When considered fully, the history of Western irrigation goes beyond agriculture and extends to engineering, economics, business, sociology, law, politics, ecology, and more. The historical understanding to be gained from any of these viewpoints depends on the preservation and accessibility of original records created by irrigators. In the West, ditch company records are the earliest and best source of irrigation history. Helin Digital Initiatives Task Force Final Report

HELIN Task Force reports

Final report to the Executive Director of the HELIN Library Consortium. The charges of the Task Force were: 1. Perform an environmental scan of digital initiatives in HELIN institutions, to produce an inventory of such projects. 2. Determine if there is a unique collection of material that qualifies for a HELIN, grant-funded project. 3. Identify the best practices, processes, procedures that would benefit the Consortium in providing access to our digital collections. 4. Advise the Board on the benefits of in-house vs. outsourcing digital projects.
