The audience for this manual are work-study students and library technicians working charged with repairing items from our circulating book collection. Be careful because a repair done incorrectly can cause more harm than good if you are not sure don’t do it. Never be afraid to ask, no question is too small.

The purpose of The Compass Rose is to raise awareness of Special Collections' resources and to foster the use of these resources. Students As Donors To University Archives: A Study Of Student Perceptions With Recommendations, Jessica Wagner, Debbi A. Smith

Publications and Research

Most of the literature that explores the relationship between students and university archives focuses on how to integrate archival materials into the undergraduate curriculum. Little exists that analyzes student perceptions of the types of materials that are found in archives; even less discusses how to induce students to donate materials that document life on campus. This case study examines student perceptions of various aspects of university archives, with the goal of developing better methods of reaching out to encourage donation of student life materials.

An Analysis Of Little Red Riding Hood Storybooks In The De Grummond Children’S Literature Collection, Cheryl Pittman

The focus of this study was an analysis of one fairy tale currently located in the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection in order to determine the extent of the collection as well as characteristics of the collection of Little Red Riding Hood illustrated storybooks. It includes analysis of year of publication to indicate the oldest version in the collection, publication trend over time from 1966 to 2010, culture or country of origin, and authorship. Adult-themed books in Cook Library that are related primarily to the topic of LRRH were also examined.

Building on the foundation of condition surveys that span the last 30 years, the current research provides library administrators at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Joseph Anderson Cook Memorial Library with information that can be used to plan mitigation strategies, create preservation policies, and further develop the existing preservation services to ensure that the collection remains accessible for future students and scholars. This survey serves as a pilot project to determine whether additional research in this area is warranted. We are opening the 2012-2013 academic year with good news on multiple fronts; a new faculty member, with permission to seek two more tenure track faculty, a renewed American Library Association accreditation for 7 years, and we are involved in a new software pilot in Blackboard. Presenting the story of what we do and how we do it, and how it can serve the community, is key to having a common bond and exchange.

The Purdue University Research Repository (PURR, http://research.hub.purdue.edu) uses HUBzero to provide a research collaboration and data management solution for campus researchers. The National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other funding agencies have begun requiring that researchers describe in their grant proposals how they will manage and share the data that will be produced in their research. Purdue researchers can include PURR in their data management plans, invite collaborators to work with them in a private projects on PURR, and publish datasets that can be cited using Digital Object Identifiers (DOI).
