Media & Information Literacy Theory And Research: Thoughts From The Co-Editors, Jeremy Harris Lipschultz, Michael L. Hilt

Communication Faculty Publications

An overview of the conceptualization of media studies and information literacy education reveals the importance of analyzing text and visual communication. Beyond simply offering an explanation of mass communication and all of its parts, media and information literacy as an emerging field of study must begin to address the complex interaction between literacy and new media forms. The new co-editors of SIMILE encourage interdisciplinary scholarship, which illuminates new avenues in media and information literacy education.

Geopolitical Analysis Of Terror In Selected U.S. Countries, Aaron M. Goodman Jan 2005

Geopolitical Analysis Of Terror In Selected U.S. Countries, Aaron M. Goodman

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Throughout the world media reports of airplanes crashing into the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C made the front page of every paper almost instantly after September 11, 2001. This unprecedented media event led to the generation of certain key questions in the ways in which the media reports on terrorism. This research is concerned with the ways in which the U.S media has responded to the 9- 11 terrorist attacks through time and space. In examining how U.S based media responds to terrorist attacks we can begin to understand if this response is …

A Comparative Framing Analysis Of Embedded And Behind-The-Lines Reporting On The 2003 Iraq War, Jim A. Kuypers, Stephen D. Cooper

Communications Faculty Research

Although a contested position, we believe that reporters and editors frame the news in a way that reflects their personal feelings and newsroom culture (Kuypers, 1997, 2002, 2005; Cooper, in press). Audiences usually receive their political news from only a few press sources; rarely do they read the original statements of those being reported upon.

Preemption Of State Spam Laws By The Federal Can-Spam Act, Roger Allen Ford Jan 2005

Preemption Of State Spam Laws By The Federal Can-Spam Act, Roger Allen Ford

Law Faculty Scholarship

Unsolicited bulk commercial email is an increasing problem, and though many states have passed laws aimed at curbing its use and abuse, for several years the federal government took no action. In 2003 that changed when Congress passed the CAN-SPAM Act. Though the law contains many different restrictions on spam messages, including some restriction of nearly every type that states had adopted, the Act was widely criticized as weak. Many of the CAN-SPAM Act's provisions are weaker than corresponding provisions of state law, and the Act preempts most state spam laws that would go farther, including two state laws that …

No Business Like Show Business: Tracking Commodification Over A Century Of Variety, Scott B. Fosdick

Faculty Publications

This baseline survey of 517 executives examined relationship management within business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce. Companies that employed B2B e-commerce evidenced communication and public relations tenets of relationship management. They allowed consumers to order and pay online, to access online support, to contact the company or sales staff, and to get product information. Engendering loyalty, by tracking customer satisfaction, was weak. Commitment to B2B e-customers was high, evidenced through personnel dedicated to B2B e-commerce and stated organizational commitment.
