The Destalination And Desatellization Of Poland And Romania:1956 To 1964., Kenneth Robert Brooks
Political Science ETDs
This thesis proposes to investigate the interrelated, but not identical, processes of deStalinization and desatellization. The former is used as a convenient, yet meaningful, label for a combination of phenomena, the essence of which is the relative relaxation of rigid controls imposed by a Communist regime over the domestic affairs of its country. Desatellization is an equally convenient, yet purposeful, phrase encompassing the process of relative relaxation of controls imposed by the Soviet Union in the early post war years over an East European nation. The two stem from basically the same causes but they are different variables in the …

A Case Study Of The Sewer Bond Issue In Logan, Utah: 1957-1965, Barbara Stoll Sinclair
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A single political issue, public financing of a sewage treatment facility for the city of Logan, was studied in an attempt to determine the effect of certain variables on the formation of public policy.
The case study method of research was followed, and conclusions were based on data obtained through personal interviews as well as through study of public documents.
Among factors which influenced the decisional process was the degree to which technological knowledge was accepted. Policies developed by the state legislature and the federal bureaucracy to deal with environmental pollution also affected the local situation. A conflict which arose …

Political Problems Of Emerging Rural Subdivisions In Kane County, Utah, R. C. Haycock
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The emerging seasonal subdivisions in the rural mountainous regions of Kane County was the focus of this study . A native of Kanab, county seat, the author has been in a position to witness the development of these projects. The desired purpose of the study was to ascertain the degree of involvement of local government and to indicate problems, their solutions and consequences. The problems encountered in analyzing these developments are basically those that must be faced by any new emerging community.
No individual study was discovered that dealt with the specific locality under consideration. Of very recent origin, the …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought
in this issue. . .
FLEXIBILITY and informality of administration, operation, and organization have been among the hallmarks of this journal since its inception ten years ago; to them, add interchangeability of parts. When the Editor in Chief had a semester's leave in 1964, REBECCA PATTERSON moved easily into his chair to keep contributors happy= printers contented, and subscribers satisfied. Now the shoe is on the other foot: She is on sabbatical after a gruelling fall's work, and he is spread thinner than ever, from the Department of History in Russ Hall to the editorial suite in Porter Library. Fortunately …
A Study Of Negro Riots In The United States 1963-1968, Leona Ann Chase
A Study Of Negro Riots In The United States 1963-1968, Leona Ann Chase
Master's Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the civil rights phenomena in the context of the Negro riots during the years 1963-1968. The inadequacies of this study are in part due to the material upon which it is based. The reports of the state study commissions did not deal with racism adequately, or the probability of implementation of various recommendations. Consequently, this paper could not treat these topics except perfunctorily. In turn, it was difficult to assess the practicality of various proposal since the extent of these variables was unknown. The failure of thee Kerner Commission report to outline …

If a man could somehow snap a picture of the world today, a viewer one hundred years hence would certainly notice its many revolutionary characteristics. Perhaps the most important of these relates to the growth of non-Western nationalism and modernization, the "revolution of rising expectations," which has resulted in the formation of many new nations within the last twenty years, led by Western-trained intellectuals in many cases. These new leaders have been faced with the problem that their fellow countrymen do not necessarily share their beliefs in or understanding of nationalism.
The leaders, many of them young, have had to …
