Some Generalizations Of Corona Product Of Two Graphs, Aparajita Borah, Gajendra Pratap Singh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper we are seeking to conceptualize the notion of corona product of two graphs to contrive some special types of graphs. That is, here our attempt is to regenerate a familiar graph as a product graph. We are considering seven familiar graphs here to reconstruct them with the help of corona product of two graphs. Such types of families of the graphs and operations can be used to study biological pathways as well as to find the optimal order and size for the special types of graphs.

Weakly Supervised Attention-Based Recognition Under Spectral, Turbulence, And Resource Variations, Kshitij Naresh Nikhal

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

While supervised optimization paradigms are ubiquitous across diverse recognition systems, the risk of over-fitting and increasing bias have limited their applicability.

This dissertation focuses on unsupervised learning—learning without precisely curated data—and argues that unsupervised learning methods can enable both discriminability and generalizability. Through the use of attention-based machine learning and advanced clustering, unsupervised methods are able to focus on fine-grained information in images without any explicit supervision. The dissertation introduces a domain-bridging framework for tasks like cross-spectrum matching and long-range recognition, utilizing intra-domain clustering and inter-domain matching to generate pseudo-labels. Additionally, a hash-based network is proposed to accelerate the search …

Fuzzy Software Reliability And Optimal Release Policy With Log-Logistic Testing Effort: An Analysis, Seema Rani, Jitendra Kumar, N. Ahmad

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

We will discuss a Software Reliability Growth Model (SRGM) using fuzzy and imperfect debugging environments; we integrate Log-Logistic (LL) Testing Effort Function (TEF) into fuzzy SRGMs. Estimation methods, such as Least Square and Maximum Likelihood, are used to obtain the value of Testing-Effort and SRGMs parameters. It is not always possible and is constantly required to quantify the exact value of parameters. Due to human conduct, the value of Testing-Effort and SRGM parameters cannot be exactly quantified. In this scenario, parameters are supposed to be vague or fuzzy. To make the software consistent, the developer needs to propose some quantity …

Predictive Understanding Of Lake Water Temperature And Dissolved Oxygen Profiles Across The Red River Basin Through Interpretable Machine Learning, Isabela Suaza Sierra

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Accurately predicting lake water temperature (LWT) and dissolved oxygen (DO) is crucial for determining threshold values of fish survivability under warmer global conditions, with recreational fishing in reservoirs significantly contributing to regional economies, such as $779 million and $1,891 million annually to the economies of Oklahoma and Texas, respectively. Current mathematical models for temperature and oxygen profiles, which incorporate multi-layer and turbulent mixing equations, are complex and challenging to parameterize, particularly due to uncertainties in acquiring sufficient data for training and validation. Leveraging the flexibility and information extraction power of machine learning (ML) methods, this master thesis aimed to set …

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

The task of math word problem (MWP) generation, which generates an MWP given an equation and relevant topic words, has increasingly attracted researchers’ attention. In this work, we introduce a simple memory retrieval module to search related training MWPs, which are used to augment the generation. To retrieve more relevant training data, we also propose a disentangled memory retrieval module based on the simple memory retrieval module. To this end, we first disentangle the training MWPs into logical description and scenario description and then record them in respective memory modules. Later, we use the given equation and topic words as …

From Asset Flow To Status, Action And Intention Discovery: Early Malice Detection In Cryptocurrency, Ling Cheng, Feida Zhu, Yong Wang, Ruicheng Liang, Huiwen Liu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Cryptocurrency has been subject to illicit activities probably more often than traditional financial assets due to the pseudo-anonymous nature of its transacting entities. An ideal detection model is expected to achieve all three critical properties of early detection, good interpretability, and versatility for various illicit activities. However, existing solutions cannot meet all these requirements, as most of them heavily rely on deep learning without interpretability and are only available for retrospective analysis of a specific illicit type. To tackle all these challenges, we propose Intention Monitor for early malice detection in Bitcoin, where the on-chain record data for a certain …

Understanding The Impact Of Trade Policy Effect Uncertainty On Firm-Level Innovation Investment: A Deep Learning Approach, Daniel Chang, Nan Hu, Peng Liang, Morgan Swink

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Integrating the real options perspective and resource dependence theory, this study examines how firms adjust their innovation investments to trade policy effect uncertainty (TPEU), a less studied type of firm specific, perceived environmental uncertainty in which managers have difficulty predicting how potential policy changes will affect business operations. To develop a text-based, context-dependent, time-varying measure of firm-level perceived TPEU, we apply Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), a state-of-the-art deep learning approach. We apply BERT to analyze the texts of mandatory Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) sections of annual reports for a sample of 22,669 firm-year observations from 3,181 unique …

Improvement Of Flow Coefficient Estimation With Limited Well Test Data For Real-Time Condition Analytics Of Choke Valve, T. Visawameteekul, Tin Seong Kam, P. Thamvechvitee

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The study discusses a method for monitoring the internal condition of choke valves to predict sand erosion using flow coefficient (Cv). The method calculates the Cv of the choke valve by utilizing eight parameters and compares it to the newly manufactured value to generate warnings. However, the availability of spot-check well test data can significantly impact the model's efficiency if tests are performed infrequently. To address this issue, the Extended Cv monitoring method is proposed in this paper. The main purpose of this study is to develop a model for estimating Cv value in the absence of well test data. …

Test-Time Augmentation For 3d Point Cloud Classification And Segmentation, Tuan-Anh Vu, Srinjay Sarkar, Zhiyuan Zhang, Binh-Son Hua, Sai-Kit Yeung

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Data augmentation is a powerful technique to enhance the performance of a deep learning task but has received less attention in 3D deep learning. It is well known that when 3D shapes are sparsely represented with low point density, the performance of the downstream tasks drops significantly. This work explores test-time augmentation (TTA) for 3D point clouds. We are inspired by the recent revolution of learning implicit representation and point cloud upsampling, which can produce high-quality 3D surface reconstruction and proximity-to-surface, respectively. Our idea is to leverage the implicit field reconstruction or point cloud upsampling techniques as a systematic way …

Iterative Graph Self-Distillation, Hanlin Zhang, Shuai Lin, Weiyang Liu, Pan Zhou, Jian Tang, Xiaodan Liang, Eric Xing Mar 2024

Iterative Graph Self-Distillation, Hanlin Zhang, Shuai Lin, Weiyang Liu, Pan Zhou, Jian Tang, Xiaodan Liang, Eric Xing

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Recently, there has been increasing interest in the challenge of how to discriminatively vectorize graphs. To address this, we propose a method called Iterative Graph Self-Distillation (IGSD) which learns graph-level representation in an unsupervised manner through instance discrimination using a self-supervised contrastive learning approach. IGSD involves a teacher-student distillation process that uses graph diffusion augmentations and constructs the teacher model using an exponential moving average of the student model. The intuition behind IGSD is to predict the teacher network representation of the graph pairs under different augmented views. As a natural extension, we also apply IGSD to semi-supervised scenarios by …

Xfuzz: Machine Learning Guided Cross-Contract Fuzzing, Yinxing Xue, Jiaming Ye, Wei Zhang, Jun Sun, Lei Ma, Haijun Wang, Jianjun Zhao Mar 2024

Xfuzz: Machine Learning Guided Cross-Contract Fuzzing, Yinxing Xue, Jiaming Ye, Wei Zhang, Jun Sun, Lei Ma, Haijun Wang, Jianjun Zhao

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Smart contract transactions are increasingly interleaved by cross-contract calls. While many tools have been developed to identify a common set of vulnerabilities, the cross-contract vulnerability is overlooked by existing tools. Cross-contract vulnerabilities are exploitable bugs that manifest in the presence of more than two interacting contracts. Existing methods are however limited to analyze a maximum of two contracts at the same time. Detecting cross-contract vulnerabilities is highly non-trivial. With multiple interacting contracts, the search space is much larger than that of a single contract. To address this problem, we present xFuzz , a machine learning guided smart contract fuzzing framework. …

Gsword: Gpu-Accelerated Sampling For Subgraph Counting, Chang Ye, Yuchen Li, Shixuan Sun, Wentian Guo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Subgraph counting is a fundamental component for many downstream applications such as graph representation learning and query optimization. Since obtaining the exact count is often intractable, there have been a plethora of approximation methods on graph sampling techniques. Nonetheless, the state-of-the-art sampling methods still require massive samples to produce accurate approximations on large data graphs. We propose gSWORD, a GPU framework that leverages the massive parallelism of GPUs to accelerate iterative sampling algorithms for subgraph counting. Despite the embarrassingly parallel nature of the samples, there are unique challenges in accelerating subgraph counting due to its irregular computation logic. To address …

Hearing Iterative And Recursive Behavior: Sonification Improves Student Understanding, Joel C. Adams, Hayworth Anderson

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

Abstract topics such as recursion are challenging for many computer science students to understand. In this experience report, we explore function sonification-the addition of sound to a function to communicate information about the function's behavior in real-time as it runs-as a pedagogical approach for improving students' understanding of recursion. We present several example iterative and recursive function sonifications, plus spectrograms that illustrate their different sonic behaviors. We also present experimental evidence that using these sonifications significantly improved the understanding of recursion for students who used them, compared to students who used silent (i.e., traditional) versions of the same functions. Based …

Random Forests For Detecting Weak Signals And Extracting Physical Information: A Case Study Of Magnetic Navigation, Mohammadamin Moradi, Zheng-Meng Zhai, Aaron Nielsen, Ying-Cheng Lai, Aaron P. Nielsen

Faculty Publications

It has been recently demonstrated that two machine-learning architectures, reservoir computing and time-delayed feed-forward neural networks, can be exploited for detecting the Earth’s anomaly magnetic field immersed in overwhelming complex signals for magnetic navigation in a GPS-denied environment. The accuracy of the detected anomaly field corresponds to a positioning accuracy in the range of 10–40 m. To increase the accuracy and reduce the uncertainty of weak signal detection as well as to directly obtain the position information, we exploit the machine-learning model of random forests that combines the output of multiple decision trees to give optimal values of the physical …

Transiam: Aggregating Multi-Modal Visual Features With Locality For Medical Image Segmentation, Xuejian Li, Shiqiang Ma, Junhai Xu, Jijun Tang, Shengfeng He, Fei Guo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Automatic segmentation of medical images plays an important role in the diagnosis of diseases. On single-modal data, convolutional neural networks have demonstrated satisfactory performance. However, multi-modal data encompasses a greater amount of information rather than single-modal data. Multi-modal data can be effectively used to improve the segmentation accuracy of regions of interest by analyzing both spatial and temporal information. In this study, we propose a dual-path segmentation model for multi-modal medical images, named TranSiam. Taking into account that there is a significant diversity between the different modalities, TranSiam employs two parallel CNNs to extract the features which are specific to …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Given a recommender system based on reviews, the challenges are how to effectively represent the review data and how to explain the produced recommendations. We propose a novel review-specific Hypergraph (HG) model, and further introduce a model-agnostic explainability module. The HG model captures high-order connections between users, items, aspects, and opinions while maintaining information about the review. The explainability module can use the HG model to explain a prediction generated by any model. We propose a path-restricted review-selection method biased by the user preference for item reviews and propose a novel explanation method based on a review graph. Experiments on …
