Global Optimization Method Based On Consensus Particle Swarm Optimization, Zhanwen Lu, Xingong Cheng, Yongfeng Zhang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: According to the characteristics of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and efficient global optimization algorithm (EGO), a global black box optimization algorithm based on consensus particle swarm optimization and local surrogate model (CPSO-LSM) is proposed. The algorithm fixes the period of the PSO algorithm to group the particles and stops after the particles reach a consensus. The high-quality sub-regions around each group of particles are used as the modeling area of the surrogate model, and the high-quality optimal solution or global optimal solution is obtained by comparing the optimal values of each region. It can not only avoid the complex …

Natural Computing Method Based On Lle Dimension Reduction, Luyao Zhang, Weidong Ji, Cheng Hao
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In the natural computing method, the appearance of high-dimensional problem can make some existing optimization algorithms avoid falling into local optimum, but it makes the performance of the algorithm worse and the running time longer. On the basis of traditional natural calculation method, a natural calculation method based on LLE(Local Linear Embedding) algorithm is proposed, which analyzes the value of neighbor particle k and dimension d, and makes the algorithm get better optimization effect after dimension reduction. In the process, a small bias s is added to the data after dimension reduction to increase the diversity of …

Nature Computation Of Self-Adaptive Dynamic Control Strategy Of Population Grouping, Wanlu Ni, Weidong Ji, Xiaoqing Sun
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Multi-population optimization method can solve the optimization difficulty caused by the increase of data volume, but the existing population grouping is carried out by means of random grouping or artificial setting, which doesn't take particle trajectories into full consideration. In view of the problem a self-adaptive dynamic control strategy of population grouping is proposed, which uses Gaussian fitting function as the reference curve of population grouping and divides sub populations according to the function's monotone interval. For particles with the trend of crossing the upper boundary of sub populations, the contrarian strategy is adopted to maintain the population diversity …

Controllability for Simple Temporal Networks with Uncertainty (STNUs) has thus far been limited to three levels: strong, dynamic, and weak. Because of this, there is currently no systematic way for an agent to assess just how far from being controllable an uncontrollable STNU is. We provide new insights inspired by a geometric interpretation of STNUs to introduce the degrees of strong and dynamic controllability - continuous metrics that measure how far a network is from being controllable. We utilize these metrics to approximate the probabilities that an STNU can be dispatched successfully offline and online respectively. We introduce new methods …

Rethinking The Weakness Of Stream Ciphers And Its Application To Encrypted Malware Detection, William Stone, Daeyoung Kim, Victor Youdom Kemmoe, Mingon Kang, Junggab Son
School of Computing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
One critical vulnerability of stream ciphers is the reuse of an encryption key. Since most stream ciphers consist of only a key scheduling algorithm and an Exclusive OR (XOR) operation, an adversary may break the cipher by XORing two captured ciphertexts generated under the same key. Various cryptanalysis techniques based on this property have been introduced in order to recover plaintexts or encryption keys; in contrast, this research reinterprets the vulnerability as a method of detecting stream ciphers from the ciphertexts it generates. Patterns found in the values (characters) expressed across the bytes of a ciphertext make the ciphertext distinguishable …

The education sector is grappling with a plethora of challenges that have compelled scholars and practitioners to begin looking for a solution. Artificial intelligence (AI) is among the proposed solutions that is having significant attention lately. However, its adoption in the education sector remains low because of challenges, such as lack of proper trials, testing, and recommendation for its applicability in the sector. This article seeks to explore the role and potentiality of AI in improving education. A systematic review design is used for this purpose. The methodology corresponds with the rapid survey protocol of Khangura (2012) which provides an …

Multimodal facial action units (AU) recognition aims to build models that are capable of processing, correlating, and integrating information from multiple modalities (i.e., 2D images from a visual sensor, 3D geometry from 3D imaging, and thermal images from an infrared sensor). Although the multimodal data can provide rich information, there are two challenges that have to be addressed when learning from multimodal data: 1) the model must capture the complex cross-modal interactions in order to utilize the additional and mutual information effectively; 2) the model must be robust enough in the circumstance of unexpected data corruptions during testing, in case …

Period Estimation And Noise In A Neutrally Stable Stochastic Oscillator, Kevin R. Sanft, Ben F. M. Intoy
Period Estimation And Noise In A Neutrally Stable Stochastic Oscillator, Kevin R. Sanft, Ben F. M. Intoy
Spora: A Journal of Biomathematics
The periods of the orbits for the well-mixed cyclic three-species Lotka-Volterra model far away from the fixed point are studied. For finite system sizes, a discrete stochastic approach is employed and periods are found via wavelet analysis. As the system size is increased, a hierarchy of approximations ranging from Poisson noise to Gaussian noise to deterministic models are utilized. Based on the deterministic equations, a mathematical relationship between a conserved quantity of the model and the period of the population oscillations is found. Exploiting this property we then study the deterministic conserved quantity and period noise in finite size systems.

Each year, the INFORMS Edelman Award celebrates the best and most impactful implementations of operations research, management science, and analytics. As the Edelman Award approaches its 50-year mark, we provide a history and characterization of the award’s finalists and winners. We provide some basic descriptive analytics about the participating organizations and authors, the impact of their work, and the methods they employed. We also conduct predictive analytics on finalist submissions, gauging contributors to success in establishing winning entries. We find that predicting Edelman winners a priori is extremely difficult; however, given a set of finalists, predictive models based on monetary …

Approximate computation is a new trend that explores and harnesses trade-offs between the precision and energy/power consumption of computing systems. In this project a feed-forward neural network was designed as well as several reservoir networks using different network topologies to compare the accuracy and resilience of the network against the computational complexity required.
