Breaking The Rules: A Rebuttal Of Normal-Tension Glaucoma, David Brey

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Glaucoma is a disease of the eyes generally characterized by high intraocular pressure, optic nerve death, and visual loss. Open-angle glaucoma and angle-closure glaucoma are the two main forms of the disease However, there is one form of open angle glaucoma that cannot be described by the above abnormalities. This form is known as normal-tension glaucoma, and while it is characterized by optic nerve death and visual loss, it does not display an abnormally high intraocular pressure. Indeed, as this thesis argues, normal-tension glaucoma should not be labeled as a glaucoma disease at all.

Many of the tests used in speech and language evaluations involve visual stimuli. It is assumed that the child being tested has adequate vision to perform these tests. The present study examined the prevalence of vision problems in speech and language delayed children to determine if a routine vision screening is necessary. The study also investigated whether student speech pathologists' screening results were significantly different from an optometrist's results.

Prior to actual testing, the student speech pathologists were taught how to administer and score a vision screening composed of tests from the Modified Clinical Technique. The children were initially screened …

The primary purpose of this investigation was to determine possible corrective methods for inverted vision. The visual problem is usually outgrown in the early teens, but these children who experience the problem tend to be classified as retarded because they cannot read. An intensive research of the literature for possible causes and corrective methods revealed inconclusive proof. However, two boys who were diagnosed to have inverted vision were given perceptual training exercises. Introduction

This study is an attempt to discover the mode of action and evaluate the effectivity of cyclodiathermy in the treatment of glaucoma, using the Muller electric tonometer in studies on the facility of outflow.

This series of cases represents a cross section of the advanced cases of glaucoma which were operated on by attending and resident staff at the White Memorial Hospital between January 1953, and December 1955. An Investigation In The Treatment Of Anisometropia With Orthokeratology Lenses, Cara Finn

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the treatment and management of anisometropia with orthokeratology lenses compared to traditional spectacle lenses. The present study aimed to quantify the interocular difference in relative corneal refractive power shift and examine its association with the differential axial growth.

Methods: One hundred and two subjects between the ages 8 and 14 years old with over -0.50D of myopia and at least 1D of anisometropia were treated with either orthokeratology lenses or traditional single vision spectacle lenses.
