Works on Radiation Effects: 1990-2020
Selected material about the healthcare system/status in Russia circa 1997. It looks like a series of pieces from a healthcare publication. Clearly this was a part of our trying to assess the opportunity to further our work with Dennis Sokol of the American Medical Centers that Ambassador Strauss connected us with as well as the post-Chernobyl opportunities for our colleagues in the Former USSR. See more at Armin Weinberg, PhD Papers and its finding aid.

Ms211: Working Notes From First Trip To Kazakhstan, Armin Weinberg
Works on Radiation Effects: 1990-2020
Includes great material & notes eg, "ADW and CL returned to Semipalatinsk with BT’s car and driver. Unfortunately while returning they hit a patch of ice and ended up in a snowy ditch. Fortunately this occurred near one of the few villages along the way and a passing truck was able to pull them out. The good reflexes and driving skills of the driver kept them from overturning. ML and MR hired a car and driver from Kuchartov and returned later after completing the hospital survey" I (ADW) gave the drive $100 for pulling us out it was below zero …

Ms211: Letter To Boris Gusev Re Icher, Armin Weinberg
Works on Radiation Effects: 1990-2020
This is a communication from me (Armin) to Boris Gusev a leader of the Kazakhstan research on the effects of the nuclear testing program. Boris is Kazakh and had much data kept for themselves as opposed to the data Russia collected and took to Moscow after the breakup of the Soviet Union. This letter was an attempt to bring them into the efforts of those working on Chernobyl. While they didn't really do that it does show the status of the ICHER and who were the key players at the time. See more at Armin Weinberg, PhD Papers and its …
Short And Long Term Effects Of Proton Microbeam Irradiation : In The Lateral Geniculate Nucleus Of Felis Domesticus, Chad Sherwood Reder
Short And Long Term Effects Of Proton Microbeam Irradiation : In The Lateral Geniculate Nucleus Of Felis Domesticus, Chad Sherwood Reder
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Little is known of the effects of proton irradiation on neural tissue. A 1.0 mm microbeam was used on the cat lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) to quantify the short term (< 3 months) and long term (< 9 months) effects of radiation damage. The LGN is a large structure with well defined afferent, efferent, and receptive field properties.
Electrophysiological and histological techniques were used to examine the effects of the microbeam at 60, 40, and 16 Gy, administered as a single bolus. Recordings of light evoked responses in the LGN were obtained using microelectrodes in nine animals within 12 weeks of irradiation, and 6 animals within 36 weeks of irradiation. Receptive fields were mapped onto a tangent screen using standard receptive field techniques. Histological measures included afferent …

Neutron Fluence And Dose From A Varian Clinic 1800 Accelerator, Richard A. Jackson
Neutron Fluence And Dose From A Varian Clinic 1800 Accelerator, Richard A. Jackson
Theses and Dissertations
The goals of this study were (1) to verify calibration factors determined by previous experiment for relating counts from activated gold foils to neutron fluences, and (2) to use the method to determine neutron fluences under various operating conditions of the Varian Clinac 1800 (18-MeV) electron accelerator at the WPAFB Medical Center. For comparison similar measurements were made of the CGM Saturne 1 at Kettering Memorial Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. Cadmium-difference pairs in a standard graphite pile were employed to verify the counting efficiency of the Geiger-Mueller beta counting system used to count the foil activity. They were also used to …
