A Study In The Comparison Of Ocular And Extremity Dominance Among A Stuttering And Non-Stuttering School-Age Population, Bruce Frank Brantingham

The nul-hypothesis has been confirmed by the analysis of the study, in that they show no relationship between stuttering and unilateral dominance. The results indicate that the laterality measure of the experimental group did not differ significantly from that of the control group.

In as much as the results of only one statistical test were significant, it is felt that this does not detract from the contribution of the study. It would seem that the results obtained from this comparison, the analysis of overall visual adequacy and extremity dominance, could have occurred by chance alone. It is pointed out, however, …

It was the purpose of the study (1) to compare the ability in expressive language of a group of Fifth, Sixth and Seventh grade Students before introducing the Treanor Method and after their working with it for a nine week period, and (2) to measure reading vocabulary in an effort to determine the amount of gain, if any, through the use of this method. The main question the study attempted to answer was: Will there be a change in creative writing ability after an intensive training program using the Treanor techniques with a group of children with language difficulties?

The purpose of this thesis was to present a rhetorical analysis of Robert G. Ingersoll's lectures on religion. Twelve of his lectures, spanning his career as a proponent of rationalism, free thought, and agnosticism were studied as a representative sampling of his public speaking. This rhetorical analysis of Ingersoll's lectures reveals that his popularity was not the product of calculated rhetorical chicanery or sophistry. Such an approach would have been unsuccessful, since his audiences had every reason not to listen and many persons were constantly looking for faults in his lectures. Statement of the problem. The present study was designed to answer the question: What is the effect of tranquilizers, specifically phenothiazines , on diadochokinetic movement in a geriatric population? It was hypothesized that patients exhibiting overt effects of long term phenothiazine therapy (dyskinesia ) would show a reduced rate of diadochokinetic movement when compared with an age-matched group exhibiting no such symptoms and with no history of having taken tranquilizers . Furthermore, if this diadochokinetic movement were reduced, there would be a greater incidence of defective speech in this patient group .

There are a few men in history whose public speaking during their own lifetime generates public praise and personal fame from the people of two sovereign nations. Henry Grattan was such a man. The Irish House of Commons heard his voice echo for twenty-five years. This long career was extended and amplified by his election to the House of Commons in Great Britain for fifteen years until his death in 1820. This simple Irish Protestant rose to speak more than two hundred times during his forty-four years of public office in both parliaments.

Modification of deviant speech patterns begins with identification of the factors responsible for the deviancy. Agreement between speech clinicians (trained listeners) and parents and teachers (untrained listeners) on the nature of errors may be important in a successful clinical services program. Previous studies investigated differences between trained and untrained listeners in the number of "correct-incorrect" decisions they made about speech sounds. This paper is a rhetorical analysis of the Senate debate over ratification of the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. In July, 1963, most Americans seemed to favor ratification of the treaty, but Senate administration forces were not certain that they could muster the necessary votes for ratification. By September, although public opinion had begun to shift against the treaty, the Senate voted overwhelmingly for ratification. The motion for ratification received 13 votes over the necessary two-thirds.
