School of Pharmacy Faculty Articles

With emerging information about the potential for morbidity and reduced life expectancy with long-term use of opioids, it is logical to evaluate nonopioid analgesic treatments to manage pain states. Combinations of drugs can provide additive and/or synergistic effects that can benefit the management of pain states. In this regard, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) modulate nociceptive signals and have been studied for chronic pain treatment. Psilocybin, commonly known as "magic mushrooms", works at the serotonin receptor, 5-HT. Psilocybin has been found in current studies to help with migraines since it has a tryptamine structure and works similarly to triptans. Psilocybin …

"The co-curriculum is intended to run parallel to the formal curriculum and support the development of students’ professional knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and attitudes, including scientific foundation, knowledge application, and practice competencies. Additionally, the co-curriculum can also support proficiency in skills and achievement of competencies that are concurrently taught within the formal curriculum. ACPE evaluates the way programs assess students’ acquisition of knowledge and application of knowledge to practice within co-curricular experiences and especially how they advance the professional development of students within affective domain areas of learning."

Increasing Vaccination Rates In The Latin X Communities Through A Public Health Initiative For Increasing Education And Vaccination, Gabriela Carrico

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects

Background: The COVID-19 disease has been found to cause an estimated 570,003 deaths in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2021). Statistics showed that the elderly, immunocompromised, and vulnerable populations are the most at risk for this disease. Vaccination is an important aspect of disease prevention in healthcare issues around the world. Vaccination against the COVID-19 prevents this communicable disease from the spread and serious adverse health outcomes.

Problem: The Latin X communities in the Tenderloin District in San Francisco city are confronted with multiple factors that affect their willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Factors …

Igm Multiple Myeloma: A Rare Clinical Entity And Diagnostic Dilemma, Keerthy Joseph, Alison Greidinger, Marjan Koch, Eric Behling, Tulin Budak-Alpdogan

Cooper Rowan Medical Journal

IgM multiple myeloma is a rare disease that shares many common features with Waldenström macroglobulinemia and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. It has been described in the literature as having unique diagnostic findings that separate it from the more common IgG and IgA myelomas. It is important for physicians to be able to differentiate between IgM multiple myeloma, Waldenström macroglobulinemia and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma as their treatments vastly differ. This case report describes the clinical presentation of a patient with IgM lambda multiple myeloma and highlights the pathologic and clinical findings that are specific to this rare entity. We aim to provide further evidence …
