Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this study is to estimate lactation milk yield of Holstein cattle using first calving age, lactation period, and service period with (ANFIS) adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system. The input variables for the system in the study were first calving age, lactation period, and service period. The output variable from the system was lactation milk yield. Predicted values obtained from the ANFIS were compared with the observed values. Twenty-seven rule functions are used to obtain the best model and 1000 epochs are used to estimate the accuracy of the training and testing error. The relations between the output and …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Considering the great diversity among dogs and their different biological and health characteristics, as well as different treatment protocols, it has become important to assess the effects of these factors on intraindividual variability of blood parameters in dogs, which is the aim of this study. Blood samples were collected from one hundred client-owned dogs. The dogs were of different age, breed, sex, body condition, reproductive, and health status and were presented to the veterinary clinic for preventive or diagnostic procedures. The effect of age on intraindividual variation was significant for various blood parameters and it was essential to establish new …

The In Vitro Effect Of Hypochlorous Acid-Metal Nanoparticles Combination On Salmonellaunder Different Temperature Conditions, Serkan Kemal Büyükünal, Karlo Muratoğlu, Ahmet Koluman

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Hypochlorous acid (HClO) is an excellent surface disinfectant and classified as nonhazardous but maintaining a steady HClO solution is extremely difficult. This study aimed to mix HClO with various metal nanoparticles (NPs) to improve stability. The efficiency of the prepared solutions against Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Enteritidis, Salmonella Dublin, and Salmonella Infantis was assessed using the culture method in five distinct experimental groups at varying temperatures (4 °C, 10 °C, 25 °C, 40 °C, and 50 °C). The type of metal NPs, HClO, and application temperatures utilized in the combined solutions for bacterial decontamination did not result in a significant difference …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is an endocrine disorder characterized by hypercalcemia caused by excessive parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion from the parathyroid gland. PHPT was previously shown to increase cardiac arrhythmias. Besides, new indices, such as the Tpeak-Tend (Tp-e) interval, Tp-e interval/QT interval (Tp-e/QT) ratio, and Tp-e interval/corrected QT interval (Tp-e/QTc) ratio may be associated with ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between PHPT and the changes to Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio, and Tp-e/QTc ratio. Materials and methods: We carried out the study with 41 patients with PHPT and 40 control subjects. We calculated …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: To explore the frequency and clinical associations of radiologic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (PPFE) in patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD). Materials and methods: In this single-center retrospective study, high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images of 105 patients with SSc-ILD were examined for the presence of PPFE. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and pulmonary function test (PFT) data of patients with and without PPFE were compared. Results: PPFE was detected in 19 (18.1%) patients (`definite PPFE' in 13 and `consistent with PPFE' in 6 patients). Patients with PPFE had higher age and longer disease duration than PPFE (-) patients (p < 0.05 for both). Radiologic usual interstitial pneumoniae (UIP) pattern was more frequent (26.3% vs. 4.7%, p = 0.01) and median force vital capacity (FVC) was lower in patients with PPFE (64% vs. 82%, p = 0.005). Spontaneous pneumothorax developed in one patient with PPFE. More deaths occured in PPFE (+) group during follow-up (31% vs. 11%, p = 0.04). Conclusion: PPFE on HRCT is not uncommon in SSc-ILD and is associated with radiologic UIP pattern and worse lung functions. Further studies are needed to elucidate the prognostic value of PPFE in SSc-ILD.
