This article reviews the biological outcome of the concentrated growth factor (CGF), a new platelet derivative used for tissue regeneration, in published articles related to the use of this product in basic and clinical studies. An electronic literature research using PubMed and SCOPUS was performed using combination of keywords: “concentrated growth factor” (OR “CGF”), AND “stem cells,” AND “cells” OR “cell proliferation” OR “cell migration” OR “cell differentiation,” AND “repair” OR “survival” OR “revitalization,” AND “tissue” OR “bone.” Forty-five articles that were published between 2012 and 2020 met the inclusion criteria. Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a benign, self-limiting histiocytosis of unknown etiology. The classic form of the condition includes a painless cervical lymphaenopathy [sic] accompanied by fever, weight loss and an elevated ESR. Extra nodal RDD (ENRDD) is most frequent in the head and neck. Thirty-eight cases of ENRDD have been described. Seven cases of ENRDD were identified in our pathology biopsy services. The demographic and clinical information was tabulated logically on the basis of age, gender, location and presence or absence of symptoms, treatment and follow-up. Bone grafting has been considered the gold standard for hard tissue reconstructive surgery and is widely used for large mandibular defect reconstruction. Improving the physical, mechanical and biological properties of brushite cements (BrC) is of a great interest for using them in bone and dental tissue engineering applications. The objective of this study was to incorporate iron (Fe) at different concentrations (0.25, 0.50, and 1.00 wt%) to BrC and study the role of Fe on phase composition, setting time, compressive strength, and interaction with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Purpose: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disorder distinguished by tissue injury and inflammation of the pancreas. Using paracrine potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) provides a useful clinical approach in treating inflammatory diseases. We investigated the therapeutic effects of adipose-derived MSC conditioned medium (CM) and hypoxia preconditioned adipose-derived MSC conditioned medium (HCM) in cerulein-induced AP in mice.

Introduction

Evolution of optical technology from two-dimensional to three-dimensional (3D) systems has come with an associated loss of stereoscopy and 3D depth perception. This report compares performance of surgical tasks in unbiased subjects using these systems.

Methods

Untrained subjects were randomized into two groups, robotically operated video optical telescopic-microscope (ROVOT) or surgical microscope (microscope). Subjects sutured and tied knots. Completion time, NASA-Task Load Index (TLX), and galvanic skin responses were analyzed.

Results

Intergroup analysis of suture completion time indicated that microscope use was significantly faster compared to ROVOT, whether used first or second. Regardless of which methodology was used first, …

Antimicrobial resistance is an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL)-producing E. coliisolation from minced camel meat and identify the phenotype and genotype of the ESBL. A total of 150 samples were collected randomly from butchers’ shops in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. The results indicated that, overall, 17 (11.3 %) E. coliisolates were recovered from the minced meat samples. The isolates were classified biochemically at the species level using the VITEK 2 system. Prevalence Of Bacterial Contamination In Uncooked Sticky Rice Samples From Markets In Japan, Kazuko Kato, Noriko Komagome, Machiko Mineki, Sumalee Boonmar, Yukio Morita

We investigated the prevalence of bacterial contamination in uncooked sticky rice samples obtained from markets in Japan. Between June and August, 2019, a total of 25 sticky rice samples were purchased from shops in the Tokyo area. Twenty-two (88.0%) and 10 (40.0%) of 25 sticky rice samples harbored 3.06±0.54 log spc/g of standard plates counts and 2.17±0.23 log cfu/g of enterobacteriaceae bacteria counts, respectively. Three species of Enterobacteriaceae, Pantoea dispersa, P. ananati, and Kosakonia cowanii, were identified by MALDI-TOFMS-based test. Feline arterial thromboembolism (ATE) is an acute condition that is usually associated with cardiomyopathy in cats. To date, there has been no report of factors associated with ATE in cats affected with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in Thailand. The objectives of this study were toevaluate the impact of efficiency of heat reduction on barns during the rainy season and barn characteristics on the reproductive performance of dairy cows in a tropical environment. Data of cows from 125 small-holder dairy farms in Chiang Mai, Thailand, during May to August 2014 was used. Semen quality is a crucial factor for predicting fertility and hatchability in several avian species including pigeons. To evaluate pigeon semen quality, prior dilution of semen was required due to its small volume with highly concentrated spermatozoa. In this study, chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV) was detected in two unvaccinatedcommercial broiler flocks, showing clinical signs relevant to Chicken infectious anemia (CIA) disease. The clinical signs included subcutaneous hemorrhage, depression and death. Necropsy findings were pale liver, severe atrophy of bursa of the Fabricius and thymus and discoloration of the bone marrow. DNA was extracted from the livers of the infected birds and the VP1 gene was detected by polymerase chain reaction. True hermaphrodites are animals with both male and female gonads that have concurrently developed in the same individual. The incidence of true hermaphroditism is moderately higher in pigs than in other domestic animals. The aim of this study was to describe the genital organs of gilts culled due to anestrus with true hermaphrodites by gross and histological analysis. A mature intracranial teratoma was identified in a 5-month-old pet rabbit showing a sudden onset of obtundation, recumbency, flaccid tetraplegia, and hyporeflexia. A space-occupying suprasellar, irregular cystic mass extending from the thalamus to the brainstem was observed at necropsy. Histologically, the tumor was composed of irregular, multilocular cysts lined by a thin wall and interposed tissue where a heterogeneous collection of structures including adipose and myxomatous tissues, cartilage, glandularand ductal structures, skeletal muscle, nervous tissue, nerve fascicles, sebaceous glands, and exocrine pancreatic cells were recognized. A hyperdynamic circulatory state is a common consequence of portal vein hypertension. Interestingly, this case report demonstrates acute canine leptospirosis manifesting with abdominal effusion, which it is focused ona hyperdynamic circulatory state, caused by portal hypertension. Severe acute kidney injury caused by leptospirosis in this case was hypothesized to be aggravated by renal hypoperfusion. This condition was noticed to occur in a similar way to hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) in humans. Anaemia, emaciation, increased mortality and decreased egg production were observed in 21 birds in a Chinese local breed flock infected naturally at 240 days old. Macroscopically, the spleen and kidneys were enlarged. There were diffuse, multifocal white foci on the surface of the liver, lungs and ovaries. Histopathological examination demonstrated typical lymphosarcoma cells and erythroblasts in the lungs, spleen, liver, kidneys and ovaries. BACKGROUND: Stickler syndrome is a collagen disorder that can affect multiple organ systems. It is characterized by ocular abnormalities, hearing loss, midfacial hypoplasia, hypermobility, and joint abnormalities. The phenotypic expression of Stickler syndrome can vary among those affected. Since Stickler syndrome is a collagen disorder, it is possible to expect pregnancy complications similar to those reported in other collagen disorders. To our knowledge, there is only one case report in the literature on the management of pregnancy and delivery of a patient with Stickler syndrome.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is used to provide acute respiratory and/or hemodynamic support to patients with severe, refractory respiratory failure. Phrenic nerve injury with subsequent hemidiaphragm paralysis should be included in the differential diagnosis of pregnant women with persistent hypoxia after ECMO cannulation.

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of elagolix, an oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist, with hormonal add-back therapy for up to 12 months in women with heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine leiomyomas.

Methods: Elaris UF-EXTEND was a phase 3 extension study that evaluated an additional 6 months (up to 12 months total) of elagolix 300 mg twice daily with hormonal add-back therapy (estradiol 1 mg and norethindrone acetate 0.5 mg once daily) in women who completed an initial 6 months of the same treatment in one of two preceding phase 3 studies. Viral hepatitis poses a serious threat to mankind. Hepatitis B and C Virus are blood borne pathogens that affect millions of individually globally. This study was conducted on a hospital-based population in Islamabad, Pakistan over a period of 4 months, utilizing ELISA as the diagnostic technique which suggested a higher seroprevalence rate for both HBV and HCV i.e. 2.07% and 8.24% respectively. Background: Legalization of cannabis and its constituents may lead to increased exposure of a higher number of consumers to cannabis use, including those with chronic kidney disease (CKD). We expect increase in cannabis use, especially, in patients with compromised kidney function.
