To define a high-risk group for paraaortic (PA) lymph node metastasis among endometrial carcinoma patients. Materials and methods: Prognostic factors determining PA lymph node metastasis were defined. Using these factors in different combinations, 14 risk groups were formed. A patient with at least one of these factors was considered as high-risk for PA lymph node metastasis. Results: This study included 152 patients. Of these patients, 18 had tumors in the PA region. Lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) and pelvic lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors for PA lymph node involvement. The aims of this study were to estimate the preoperative thyroid volume in patients with a multinodular goiter by the use of ultrasonography (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and then to compare these approaches with the postsurgical total volume measured by Archimedes' principle. The present study was designed to investigate the modulatory effect of \beta-sitosterol administration on 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced fecal bacterial and colonic biotransformation enzyme activities. Materials and methods: The chemopreventive potential of \beta-sitosterol in colon carcinogenesis was assessed by injecting DMH (20 mg/kg body weight) subcutaneously into male Wistar rats and supplementing with \beta-sitosterol throughout the experimental period of 16 weeks at 3 different doses (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg body weight). We report our initial experience related with robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALRP) performed by a urologic surgeon without previous laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) experience. Materials and methods: The data of the first 70 patients who underwent RALRP between February 2009 and February 2010 are presented. Results: Mean console time was 214 ± 55.5 min with pelvic lymph node dissection (LND) in 14 patients. Mean intraoperative blood loss was 215 ± 227.3 cc. Approximately 40 diaphragmatic lipoma cases have been reported in the literature to date. Diaphragmatic lipoma is 2 times more likely to appear on the left rather than the right side. In the present study, diaphragmatic lipoma was evaluated in patients who underwent surgical management in light of the literature data. To evaluate causes of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) failure. The rate of NIMV failure in respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations was reported as 5%-40%. Materials and methods: The necessity of endotracheal intubation was accepted as NIMV failure. To evaluate the effects of thoracic epidural anesthesia (TEA) on acute pancreatitis (AP)-induced lung injury in a rat model. To retrospectively review the epidemiologic characteristics of patients who underwent surgery for hip fracture. Materials and methods: Patients who underwent surgery for hip fracture in our clinic between 2006 and 2010 were evaluated in terms of their age, sex, localization of fracture, and surgical procedure. Results: The mean age of 419 patients who underwent surgery for hip fracture was 74.18 ± 11.26 (50-106). To present 8 patients with polyradiculopathy or polyradiculoneuritis caused by brucellosis. Polyradiculopathy or polyradiculoneuritis are occasional neurological involvements of brucellosis. Materials and methods: The diagnosis was made with clinical, serological and/or cerebrospinal fluid, and electromyographic examinations. Results: All of the patients except one improved quickly after specific antimicrobial treatment. Furthermore, electrophysiological examinations revealed normal findings in 6 patients. Conclusion: This clinical form of brucellosis is mostly reversible if it is diagnosed earlier and treated effectively.

Materials and methods: In this study, 608 patients (397 male and 211 female) admitted to a smoking cessation clinic to quit smoking between 1 January 2006 and 1 June 2010 were investigated. Aim: To compare thoracic epidural analgesia with intravenous analgesia in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Materials and methods: This retrospective study included 40 patients who had received elective single artery bypass surgery. After general anesthesia, one group was given patient-controlled thoracic epidural analgesia and the other group was given patient-controlled intravenous meperidine analgesia.
