The impact of an education program on perception, knowledge, and infection rate was evaluated in this study. The educational intervention consisted of a video on infection control and a World Health Organization (WHO) pamphlet for hand hygiene. The study was conducted in one nursing home in the Southeastern United States. The survey sample consisted of 66 certified nurse assistants (CNAs). A pre- and post-intervention design was employed using the WHO’s Hand Hygiene Knowledge Questionnaire and the WHO Perception Survey. Friedman’s test and central tendencies showed no statistical relationship between the educational intervention and the overall knowledge scores of the sample. …

The importance of peroxisomes in lipid metabolism is now well established and peroxisomes contain approximately 60 enzymes involved in these lipid metabolic pathways. Several acyl-CoA thioesterase enzymes (ACOTs) have been identified in peroxisomes that catalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoAs (short-, medium-, long- and very long-chain), bile acid-CoAs, and methyl branched-CoAs, to the free fatty acid and coenzyme A. A number of acyltransferase enzymes, which are structurally and functionally related to ACOTs, have also been identified in peroxisomes, which conjugate (or amidate) bile acid-CoAs and acyl-CoAs to amino acids, resulting in the production of amidated bile acids and fatty acids. The purpose of the study was to examine RBM programme’s efforts at controlling malaria among PLWHA and explore their perception of the control strategies. The study was a descriptive survey involving guided interviews of top managers of Roll Back Malaria (RBM) programme. A structured questionnaire was administered to 108 PLWHA attending an HIV/AIDS clinic in a secondary health facility in Calabar. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. This paper aims to investigate the effect of light emitting diode therapy (LEDT) on exercise-induced hand muscle fatigue by measuring the surface electromyography (sEMG) of flexor digitorum superficialis. Ten healthy volunteers were randomly placed in the equal sized LEDT group and control group. All subjects performed a sustained fatiguing isometric contraction with the combination of four fingertips except thumb at 30% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) until exhaustion. To evaluate the cephalometric features of patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and to elucidate the relationship between the severity of OSAS and cephalometric and clinical variables. Materials and methods: Ninety-three patients (71M/22W) with OSAS were classified into 3 subgroups according to the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). Various cephalometric and clinical measurements were carried out for all patients. Results: Inferior airway space (IAS), maximum soft palate thickness (MSPT), SNGoGn°, and distance of hyoid bone to mandibular plane (Hy-MPPerp) were found to be higher in severe OSAS for both sexes. We aimed to observe the isokinetic muscular strength differences of the ankle-foot complex of sprinters of both sexes to understand the effectiveness of the ankle and subtalar ranges of motion on the sprint performances of elite athletes. Materials and methods: Elite Turkish national sprinters (n = 11; 5 females and 6 males) were assessed regarding their ankle joint isokinetic performance (30°/s and 120°/s), joint ranges, and sprint times. Results: A significant difference was observed between the average power of the right dorsiflexors (P < 0.001) of female athletes and the right invertors (P < 0.05) of male athletes at 120°/s for the 100-m sprint time. The average powers of the right (P < 0.05) and left (P < 0.05) evertors of the male athletes at 30°/s were significantly negatively correlated with sprint time. Additionally, only the plantar flexion range was significant for male athletes' sprint times, and the dominant invertors' peak torque at 120°/s in female athletes was significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The strength of the nondominant side dorsiflexors of female athletes and the nondominant invertors of male athletes are important in decreasing the strength asymmetry to disregard the strength of the nondominant side in relation to sprint performance.

Materials and methods: In total, 216 women with stage III/IV genital prolapse (POPQ system) underwent vaginal hysterectomy combined with uterosacral ligaments plication.
