Ord River Irrigation Area - Potential For A Sugar Cane Industry In Western Australia, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Ord River Irrigation Area - Potential For A Sugar Cane Industry In Western Australia, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Farm Systems and Economics published reports
The Ord River Irrigation Area is in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia, 3,200 kms from Perth, the State’s Capital City.
The area is located in the arid tropics with a climate suitable for high plant growth rates provided water supply is adequate.
With only 12,000 ha of land developed out of a potential 72,000 ha of clay soils the area has the potential for further development of a major irrigated agricultural enterprise.
The Ord River Irrigation Project has been developed for commercial agriculture following the construction of a diversion dam in 1963, and a major dam in 1974, The …

Simulating The Water Requirements And Economic Feasibility Of Corn In The Midwest, Wendi L. Palmer, B. J. Barfield, M. E. Bitzer, C. T. Haan
KWRRI Research Reports
An evaluation of the economics of supplemental irrigation when using a surface water supply must be site specific in order to account for variations in soil moisture holding capacity, watershed area supplying the runoff, climatic conditions, and proposed irrigation management procedures.
With the use of farm specific simulation models to determine grain yields, availability of irrigation water, and economic expenditures involved in irrigation, an economic evaluation of supplemental irrigation can be performed, In the model presented in this report, the Duncan SIMAIZ model is used to predict grain yields using long-term daily weather information. SIMAIZ also determines irrigation water demand …

Kabatiella Caulivor, Root Rot Resistance, Bluegreen Aphid, Asessment Of Medicago Murex, Clover Establishment Techniques, D J. Gillespie
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
Kabatiella caulivora (clover scorch). In contrast to previous years where all overseas introductions and most crossbreds were tested for resistance to Kabatiella, only selected clovers are now being screened so as to reduce the number requiring testing to a manageable size. Root rot resistance screening. One hundred and seven clovers selected as low in formononetin, tolerant of clover scorch, mid to late season maturity, and reasonable winter vigour were tested at two sites for root rot resistance. Bluegreen aphid (BGA) resistance screening. Sub clover screening for bluegreen aphid resistance ranked from tolerant to susceptible (ratings at 49 days from commencement). …

To test the field effectiveness of new strains of Rhizobium meliloti and to compare them with standard strains. 2. To initiate trials aimed at examining the performance of R. meliloti as long term colonisers of mildly acid soils. These trials are the first in a programme aimed at looking at the feasibility of developing acid tolerant strains for large areas of acid soil which are not suitable for growing subterranean clover. The 1981 trials will provide a basis for comparison …

Bulletin 3929 - Irrigation In Western Australia, K S. Cole
Bulletins - 3000 - 3999
Irrigation is essential in many parts of the world to produce essential food and profitable cash crops. Generally, those areas of land with less than 360 mm of rain spread over a distinct wet season of several months cannot grow crops for food or cash on rainfall alone. Then irrigation becomes necessary unless some peculiarity such as an oasis exists.
