A Comparison Of The Effects Of Two Therapeutic Exercises On The Muscle Action Potential Of The Vastus Medialis, Janet J. Lozar
A Comparison Of The Effects Of Two Therapeutic Exercises On The Muscle Action Potential Of The Vastus Medialis, Janet J. Lozar
Masters Theses
Electromyography was utilized to compare the effects of two therapeutic exercises at two work loads in knee extension on the muscle action potential in the vastus medialis. One exercise was extension to 180 degrees with a four second isometric hold and flexion to 90 degrees. The other exercise was extension to 180 degrees, 15 degrees flexion, 15 degrees extension and flexion to 90 degrees. Each exercise lasted for 10 seconds.
The subjects in the study were 11 varsity female athletes from the fall and winter interscholastic athletic program at Eastern Illinois University. The subjects met for the first time to …
The Relationship Between Oxygen Debt Size And Blood Ph Change During Recovery From Exercise On The Bicycle Ergometer And Treadmill, Timothy J. Falconer
The Relationship Between Oxygen Debt Size And Blood Ph Change During Recovery From Exercise On The Bicycle Ergometer And Treadmill, Timothy J. Falconer
Masters Theses
It was the purpose of this study to investigate the relationship of oxygen debt and blood pH change during the recovery from exercise.
For this study, ten male members of the Eastern Illinois University track team were chosen as subjects on the basis of their levels of physical condition.
The subjects were tested on three different occasions. The first test for all subjects was a fifteen minute resting oxygen consumption. Then depending upon random selection, the subjects ran on a treadmill and on another test day rode a bicycle ergometer, or vice versa. Preceding each exercise a pre-exercise micro-blood sample …

Lactate Removal From The Blood Of Trained Distance Runners Following Strenuous Intermittent Exercise, Benjamin F. Timson
Lactate Removal From The Blood Of Trained Distance Runners Following Strenuous Intermittent Exercise, Benjamin F. Timson
Masters Theses
The purpose of the study was to investigate the rate of lactate removal from the blood of trained distance runners, during recovery from maximal intermittent exercise.
Five well trained male subjects (mean VO2 max of 69.79 ml/kg/min) were selected for the study. Four of the subjects were members of the 1975 Intercollegiate Cross Country team and one was a member of the 1975 Intercollegiate Soccer team at Eastern Illinois University. Each subject received an orientation to the treadmill and a maximum oxygen consumption test prior to the actual test procedure. The test procedure consisted of three separate warm-down periods …

An Electromyographic Study Of The Effects Of Lateral Asymmetry On The Upper Leg Muscles Used In Normal Walking On A Treadmill, S. Marie Landmesser
An Electromyographic Study Of The Effects Of Lateral Asymmetry On The Upper Leg Muscles Used In Normal Walking On A Treadmill, S. Marie Landmesser
Masters Theses
The purpose of the study was to determine through electromyography whether a non-pathological fault, such as lateral asymmetry at the pelvic level, would hinder, in significant manner, efficient functioning of the body.
A review of the literature revealed that although previous experiments had been conducted to determine the effects certain postural deviations had on the normal, efficient functioning of the body and that previous experiments had been conducted to determine which muscles performed which task as related to walking, none dealt with the specific effects of lateral deviations at the pelvic level on the upper leg muscles used in walking. …

The Immediate Effect Of Swimming And Track Competition On Blood Ph Values, James B. Knott
The Immediate Effect Of Swimming And Track Competition On Blood Ph Values, James B. Knott
Masters Theses
The purpose of the study was to investigate the changes associated with blood pH and different exercise work loads during competition. Finger tip blood samples (1 milliliter), were obtained from 33 male subjects from the varsity swimming and track teams of Eastern Illinois University. The samples were taken prior to exercise and between three and seven and one half minutes after cessation of the event. The blood samples were analyzed with a Radiometer Micro Blood pH Unit. The subjects were chosen on the basis of the events in which they competed. The swimming subjects competed in the 100, 200, 500, …

The Effect Of Exercise On Metabolic Rate With Time In Overweight And Normal Weight Subjects, Roberta Jewell Keswick
The Effect Of Exercise On Metabolic Rate With Time In Overweight And Normal Weight Subjects, Roberta Jewell Keswick
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Previous studies in the Lome Linda University laboratory showed that obese subjects on an exercise program lost approximately one pound more per week as compared to a non-exercise group. Energy expenditure calculations of the exercise did not account for the total caloric deficit required to lose the additional pound. The present study was designed to investigate changes in BMR and metabolic rate with time for normal weight and overweight subjects involved in a practical exercise program. The relationship of changes in BMR and metabolic rate in coping with the problems of obesity were also studied.
Fifteen subjects, eight overweight and …

Fatique In Caged Layers, P Smetana
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Pullets found immobilised on the floors of their laying cages may only be suffering from the easily-treated "cage layer fatigue" and should be checked for this before being disposed of as affected with the incurable fowl paralysis.
