Solpugida Of The Nevada Test Site, Martin Hammond Muma

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

Study of nearly 1,000 specimens of solpugids collected in 1960, 1961, and 1962 from Mercury, Nevada, resulted in the identification and placement of 395 adults in 28 species. Eight new species are described and figured. Two new synonymies, resulting from proper association of males and females, are cited. Study of the seasonal distribution and relative abundance of the sexes of 12 common species has prompted general and specific deductions concerning the essentially unknown biology of North American solpugids. Systematic collection data furnished ecological information concerning the 12 common species.

This paper consitutes a terminal report to the United States Atomic Energy Commission for Contract AT(11-1)786. It provides a listing of the fauna known to occur at the Nevada Test Site, with designation of ecological distribution and relative density. It is designed to serve as the basic faunistic reference source, in subsequent studies, related to geographical and ecological features at the test site.

Murine Circadian Susceptibility-Resistance Cycle To Acetylcholine, Frank Jones, Erhard Haus, Franz Halberg

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The detection of a circadian ( about 24- hour) susceptibility-resistance cycle to acetylcholine by spot checks on mortality from this agent will be here presented. The study was done under conditions standardized to some extent for 24-hour routine-synchronized circadian system analysis ( 1). Sampling was limited to only two time points along the 24-hour scale. Hence, results represent a spot check rather than a circadian map. The conclusions to be drawn from these data have been confirmed, in the interim, with more frequent sampling. United States Naval Medical Research Unit 3: Publications

Over the past several years a large number of references from the USSR, Eastern Europe, and China have been collected dealing with arthropods of medical importance. These references were coded on keysort cards which made it possible to index as many as fifteen subject areas on one card. The usefulness of this indexing system was evident by the number of medical entomologists who used it in searching for references in their specialty. In response to requests from workers in the United States and other countries who did not have ready access to the index. it was decided to publish these …

The purpose of the work leading to the writing of the thesis was two fold: (1) to survey birds of Northern California for hemoprotozoa of the genera Haemoproteus, Leucocytozoon, and Trypanosoma, and (2) to construct an up-to-date check-list of the Haemoproteus, Leucocytozoon, and Trypanosoma parasites of birds of North America.
