There is a notable paucity of detailed information regarding the distribution and ecological characteristics of nonmarine Ostracoda in Northern Cyprus. Furthermore, a comprehensive assessment of their distribution across islands in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres is incomplete. To advance our understanding of ostracod diversity, distribution, and ecological preferences, a total of 79 aquatic sites in Northern Cyprus were randomly sampled between 18 May and 12 August 2022. A total of 64 ostracod taxa were identified, comprising 28 living species and 36 subfossils, with 18 species representing new records for the island. This study assigns 35 gastropod specimens and 23 shells collected from two sites on the Turkish Levantine and Aegean coasts at depths of 432 and 702 m, respectively, to 13 species. Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) is a species of concern in North America as many populations have declined across its distribution. Environmental factors associated with alteration of natural ecosystems have played a role in declines leading to many isolated populations. Most populations exist in the Great Lakes region with a number of outlying populations, such as Nebraska. Understanding the current distribution of the species will facilitate regional management strategies to protect this species into the future. The Asian Openbill (Anastomus oscitans) plays a crucial role in rice field ecosystems by preying on invasive apple snails (Pomacea spp.), potentially reducing the reliance on chemical molluscicides. This study investigated the distribution and abundance dynamics of the stork across major rice granaries in Peninsular Malaysia. Surveys were conducted at 111 sampling points within 30 localities across 11 states during five consecutive rice seasons (2022–2024), with bird counts obtained through binoculars and digital photography. We conducted surveys for the Cedar Keys Mole Skink, Plestiodon egregius insularis (Mount), during 1989– 1999 and 2015–2024, examined museum vouchers, and compiled personal observations from others to determine the status and distribution of this subspecies, which has the smallest geographic distribution of the five subspecies and is being considered for federal listing. We observed Cedar Keys Mole Skinks on Airstrip Island, Atsena Otie, Cedar Point, Deer Island, North Key, Scale Key, Seahorse Key, Snake Key, and possibly Dog Island. This study aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the fundamental biological and certain population characteristics of Ciona intestinalis found along the Black Sea coasts of Turkey. The research was conducted between September 2022 and April 15, 2023, off the Sinop coast of the Black Sea, utilizing samples collected by commercial fishing vessels in the region. A total of 103 specimens of Ciona intestinalis were examined during the study. The average total length, width, and weight of Ciona intestinalis were determined to be 3.614 ± 0.089 cm, 1.967 ± 0.054 cm, and 2.004 ± 0.067 g, respectively. The length-weight relationship …

This is the first clustering analysis of the 53 species of the genus Eucypris where we used 28 plesiomorphic and apomorphic character states in the Winclada/NONA program. Accordingly, Eucypris dorlionensis n. sp. was clustered within Group 2, in which the new species was clearly separated from the other species of the genus based on the shape of the carapace, presence of fine hair-like setae on the carapace surface, the position of the maximum height of the carapace, and length ratio of terminal claws of the second antenna. This work presents information about 19 taxa recorded from different habitats at depths between 0.2 and 508 m in the last two decades, which are new records or poorly known species along the Turkish coasts. Several recent accounts of overlap and historic misidentifications regarding two species of the genus Lasiurus, Western red bat (Lasiurus frantzii) and Eastern red bat (Lasiurus borealis), have cast doubt on our understanding of their distribution, assumed spatial allopatry, and interactions in the United States Southwest. In the present paper, 14 species of Ichneumonidae collected in Biskra region (Algeria) are reported. The species Trathala hierochontica (Schmiedeknecht, 1910), Diplazon laetatorius Fabricius, 1781, Ophion obscuratus Fabricius, 1798, Enicospilus tournieri (Vollenhoven, 1879), Dichrogaster schimitcheki (Fahringer, 1935), Dichrogaster longicaudata (Thomson, 1884), Gelis imitatus (Schwarz, 2016) and Lysibia nana (Gravenhorst, 1829) are reported as new records for the Algerian fauna.

Cryptocephalus surdus Rapilly, 1980 is a little-known species which was described based on specimens collected from Iran. Due to the fact that the species was described very briefly in its original description, the taxonomic features of the species are redescribed in here. In addition, information about additional taxonomic characters, habitats and distribution in Türkiye of this little-known species are given for the first time in this study. Habitus and genital features of the species are photographed. Habitat preference and a map showing the previous and new distribution localities of the species are provided.

Anastrepha is the most diverse and economically important genus of Tephritidae in the American tropics and subtropics. The striking morphology of the third instars of Anastrepha caballeroi Norrbom, Anastrepha crebra Stone, Anastrepha haplacantha Norrbom & Korytkowski, Anastrepha korytkowskii Norrbom, Anastrepha nolazcoae Norrbom & Korytkowski, and three newly discovered and as yet formally unnamed species (Anastrepha sp. Culex pipiens species complex is commonly found in tropical and subtropical areas. Identification of species complexes and their spatial distribution patterns are fundamental steps needed to improve our understanding of arboviral disease circulation and their control. The specimens were differentiated using the Ace-2 gene, and the ecological forms of Culex pipiens were identified by analysis of the CQ11 microsatellite locus. Results showed that all sample points comprised of Culex pipiens s.s., and seven points contained Culex torrentium. This study provides baseline data on the mullid fish assemblages based on their morphometries on a shelf of the most oligotrophic water of the Mediterranean Sea, Antalya Gulf. The current status and annotated checklist of fresh- and brackish-water amphipod species inhabiting the inland waters (streams, lakes, ponds, lagoons, subterranean waters, etc.) of Turkey is presented. Totally, 171 papers, 3 books, 3 book chapters, 5 conference papers, 2 projects, 3 PhD and 3 MSc thesis were examined in the present study. Information on the distribution and current status of 25 species or subspecies of mammals occurring in Nebraska are presented. The species covered include one shrew, an armadillo, eight bats, 10 rodents (including two subspecies of one species), three carnivores, and one artiodactyl. Distributional information reported includes the first state record for one species (Sorex nanus) and new county records for 18 species. In Nebraska, we know that mammals are shifting their geographic ranges with some extending populations into the state, whereas others are expanding their geographic ranges within the state. In a status assessment conducted by Kasparek et al. in 2004, it was shown that the species is at the brink of extinction. Subsequent species lists with descriptions included: Brickell (1737), Cope (1870a), Jordan (1889a), Jordan and Evermann (1896-1900), Smith (1907), Jordan et al. (1930), Fowler (1945), Louder (1962), Ratledge et al. (1966), Menhinick et al. (1974). In 1991, Menhinick published “The Freshwater Fishes of North Carolina”, which is still widely in use because a comprehensive update has not been produced since its publication. Temnothorax pakistanensis sp. n., a new ant species from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the Himalayan range of Pakistan is described based on the worker caste and queen. An identification key and distribution map of the known Pakistani Temnothorax is presented. Summaries of the taxonomic history and biology of the three Temnothorax species of Pakistan is included.

Detailed surveys on rarely examined aquatic ecosystems often lead to the discovery of new species of high conservation value. This study directed towards the recognition of a variety of aquatic environments in Costa Rica (40 habitats, including lakes, wetlands, and small aquatic systems, e.g., ponds, ditches, puddles, tree holes, and bromeliads) established the presence of 105 species of Monogononta representing 33 genera. The Northern Rocky Mountain fisher population (Pekania pennanti), is classified as a Species of Greatest Conservation Need and is of special concern to state, federal, and tribal entities. In this thesis, we present methods to effectively survey fishers across the northern Rockies of Idaho and Montana, and provide estimates of fisher distribution at a population range-wide scale through occupancy analyses. We also assess factors that influence fisher occurrence through covariate analyses and identify core fisher habitat in the northern Rockies through spatial occupancy modeling. In order to compare species compositions of ostracods, 25 streams and 15 lakes were sampled in the spring, summer, and autumn seasons of 2018. A total of 26 ostracod species were found in lakes (18 spp.) and streams (12 spp.). The Shannon index (H') and evenness values of streams were higher than in lakes in all seasons. The highest H' values for all combined (lakes + streams) and lake data were reported in the autumn season, and in spring the highest values were in streams. Sciaridae or the dark-winged fungus gnats fauna of southern and eastern Europe is very poorly known. A total of 29 species were identified from Romania, of which 20 species are reported here for the first time from the country. An updated checklist of dark-winged fungus gnats (Sciaridae) of Romania is provided. DNA barcodes of 39 specimens belonging to 21 species were successfully sequenced, of which some were previously unknown or undetected.

The Kanawha River in West Virginia is a historically diverse system in terms of ichthyofauna although, like many other large rivers, it has been subjected to a suite of anthropomorphic perturbations. These include this system being modified to allow the passage of commercial vessels for industry thus altering flow regimes, increased sedimentation, water depth, and channelization, and decreased interactions with its floodplain. Additionally, the fishes of this system have suffered from deleterious historical water quality issues caused by intensive timber operations, mining, and industrial waste.
