On The Parasites Of The Lake Fish: Notes On The Structure And Life History Of Distoma Opacum, N. Sp., Henry B. Ward
Studies from the University of Nebraska Zoological Laboratory
This work was done while a member of the scientific corps sent out by the Michigan Fish Commission to begin an investigation of the biological conditions in the Great Lakes. The work in 1893 was carried on at New Baltimore, on Lake St. Clair. My thanks are due to the Michigan Board of Fish Commissioners for the many conveniences placed at my disposal in carrying out the investigations on fish parasites, of which this is one result. To Professor J. E. Reighard, director of the party, I owe much for his interest and hearty cooperation in all matters pertaining to …

A Preliminary Report On The Worms (Mostly Parasitic) Collected In Lakes St. Clair, In The Summer Of 1893, Henry B. Ward
Studies from the University of Nebraska Zoological Laboratory
In the work done on the fauna and flora of Lake St. Clair during the summer of 1893, the group of Vermes was entrusted to the writer. The following is submitted as a preliminary report on the ground covered, the material obtained, and the results of this branch of the work so far as they can be seen at this stage.
Excluding the Rotifera, which were studied by another member of the party, the Vermes are represented in fresh water by three great classes: the Plathelminthes (Flatworms), Nemathelminthes (Round or Threadworms), and the Annelida (Segmented-worms).

American Work On Cestodes In 1893, Henry B. Ward
American Work On Cestodes In 1893, Henry B. Ward
Studies from the University of Nebraska Zoological Laboratory
An important advance in the morphological and systematic knowledge of the Cestoda has been made this year through two papers published by Dr. C. W. Stiles, of the Bureau of Animal Industry. They command attention not only since they emanate from an American worker, but also by reason of the methods employed. Heretofore it has been largely true that tapeworms were identified by their hosts and by their general appearance, and hence no branch of systematic zoology has been more confused. The same form from different hosts was the recipient of as many different names, and even specimens from the …
Catalogue Of The Snakes Of Nebraska With Notes On Their Habits And Distribution, W. Edgar Taylor
Catalogue Of The Snakes Of Nebraska With Notes On Their Habits And Distribution, W. Edgar Taylor
Papers in Herpetology
The author has published in the proceedings of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture a complete catalogue of Nebraska serpents including notes and descriptions of the adults and young. Since the preparation of this catalogue Prof. Cope's review of North American snakes has appeared. This together with the fact that the author has had time to review his own studies and add many other notes is sufficient excuse for offering the present catalogue.
In the classification we have followed Prof. Cope. The notes given are confined to the Ophidia or serpents of Nebraska. The range of the collection, which was …

Papers in Herpetology
The notes and descriptions given in this catalogue are confined to the Ophidia, or serpents, of Nebraska. The range of the collections made included representative localities in different parts of the state, and only specimens actually examined by the author are included in the catalogue. The localities by counties are represented on the accompanying map.
Localities represented by the specimens examined by the author at the time of making out this catalogue are indicated by the solid circular blotches. The rings indicate the localities represented in the collections of the National Museum as published in Yarrow's Check List. In addition, …

De Bestiis Marinis Or, The Beasts Of The Sea, Georg Wilhelm Steller
De Bestiis Marinis Or, The Beasts Of The Sea, Georg Wilhelm Steller
Zea E-Books in American Studies
Steller’s classic work, published in Latin in 1751 and in German in 1753, contains the only scientific description from life of the Steller’s sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), as well as the first scientific descriptions of the fur seal or “sea bear” (Callorhinus ursinus), Steller’s sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus), and the sea otter (Enhydra lutris).
Steller’s sea cow was a sirenian, or manatee, inhabiting the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. It was first discovered by Europeans in 1741 and rendered extinct by 1768. It was a 30-foot long, plant-eating aquatic mammal, weighing …
