In 1908 I referred our Nebraska otters to L. c. sonora (Rhoads), basing this conclusion on the mounted specimen in the University Museum, because of its large size and pallor, that being the only Nebraska specimen in any collection in the state at that time, and, so far as known to me, the only Nebraska specimen extant except the young female in the U. S. National Museum mentioned above. In 1915 I repeated this identification. The first part of the book is an "Index of Birds identified in the spring of 1918. Course under Dr. Scott." The list was compiled by Charles S. Driver, BC Class of 1916. Field notes are included. Driver was likely taking this class in graduate work, probably at Indiana University.

Nebraska porcupines all belong to the yellow-haired species (Erethizon epixanthum) , and these animals have never been abundant in the state. Formerly, however, they were much more numerous than today, and enjoyed a more extended range in the state than they do at the present time. Up to about 1885 these animals occurred across the northern portion of Nebraska east at least to Pierce and Madison counties, there being records of four specimens secured along the small streams tributary to the Elkhorn river in these two counties between 1870 and 1885. The question as to the length of time Cysticercus bovis may survive after the death of its host has been quite definitely settled by the researches of Perroncito, Zschocke, Ostertag and others. Perroncito (1877) found that the cysticerci in an artificially infested calf were all dead fourteen days after the slaughter of the animal. However, Zschocke (1896) succeeded in infesting the human subject with a tapeworm by feeding five cysticerci from beef kept from fourteen to sixteen days after slaughter. Experimental work in breeding for egg production was started with this flock of Single Comb White Leghorns in 1907. The flock of 1907 was hatched from eggs from a small flock that had been introduced into the plant two or three years before.

After two years' records of these flocks had been completed and studied it was found that nearly three-fourths of the first flock had made better records the second year than they did the first and that there was a great variation in the two years' records of individual hens. Horse breeding in Utah, with some exceptions, has been carried on in a hap-hazard manner, and unsound horses of doubtful breeding have been purchased at high prices and have proven of little value. Where good blood has been introduced the temporary improvement has been marked, but as this work has not been followed up with care, results have not been lasting.

For the last two winters feeding experiments have been carried on by this Station to ascertain the value of beet pulp and beet molasses as food for sheep and steers. In a feeding test made with sheep two years ago, the results of which are reported in bulletin No. 78, sugar beet pulp and sugar beet molasses gave profitable returns. When lucern and pulp were fed, one pound of gain was made from 7.95 pounds of lucern and 17.86 pounds pulp. One hundred pounds of increase was made at a cost of $2.48 and pulp had a value of $1.86 …

This genus is founded on a nearly perfect skull and lower jaw in the American Museum collections (No. 2780), with associated skeletal material including five cervical vertebrae, tibia, fibula, calcaneum, astragalus, lunar, middle digit of manus, and ribs, found by the Expedition of 1897 near Hay Spring, Nebraska. Professor Henry F. Osborn has placed this material in the writer's hands for description.
