Performance Analysis For Single-Stage And Multi-Stage Coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator With Different Rotor Structures, Habib Asiful

Student Works (2020-2029)

Axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator is a good candidate for both low and high-speed applications. Compared to radial flux machines, AFPM generators can be easily cascaded for enhanced power/torque while maintaining a fixed machine diameter. To improve power density and reduce cogging torque, some researchers have proposed the removal of iron core in the stator of AFPM machine, giving rise to the concept of coreless AFPM machine. Nevertheless, most of these coreless machines still require back iron on the rotor and/stator to reduce leakage flux. In this project, different rotor structures for single-stage coreless AFPM generators were considered, using …

After mating, female mosquitoes need animal blood to develop their eggs. In the process of acquiring blood, they may acquire pathogens, which may cause different diseases in humans such as malaria, zika, dengue, and chikungunya. Therefore, knowing the parity status of mosquitoes is useful in control and evaluation of infectious diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, where parous mosquitoes are assumed to be potentially infectious. Ovary dissections, which are currently used to determine the parity status of mosquitoes, are very tedious and limited to few experts. An alternative to ovary dissections is near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), which can estimate the age in days …

Remedying Sound Source Separation Via Azimuth Discrimination And Re-Synthesis, Ruairí De Fréin Jun 2020

Remedying Sound Source Separation Via Azimuth Discrimination And Re-Synthesis, Ruairí De Fréin

Conference papers

Commercially recorded music since the 1950s has been mixed down from many input sound sources to a two- channel reproduction of these sources. The effect of this approach is to assign sources to locations in a stereo field using a pan- position for each source. The Adress algorithm is a popular way of extracting individual music sound sources from a stereo mixture. A drawback of the Adress algorithm is that when time- frequency components in the stereo mixture are shared between two or more sources, calculating the inter-aural intensity scaling parameter for each source for that time-frequency component is challenging. …

Statistical Eye Diagram Analysis Based On Double-Edge Responses For Coding Buses, Xiuqin Chu, Wenwu Wang, Jun Wang, Xiangyu Dai, Jun Fan, Yushan Li

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

For high-speed coding buses, it is a great challenge to evaluate the eye diagram accurately. Assuming that all data bits are independent and have uniform probabilities as previous estimation methods have done is not valid. In this paper, a new statistical method is proposed to estimate the worst-case eye diagrams and bit-error-rate (BER) eye diagrams for coding buses. The probability distribution of coded bus bit vectors is modeled based on the coding rule constraints. Then, actual worst pattern and eye diagram calculation is derived based on bus bit transition probabilities and double-edge responses. In order to validate the method, a …

Short-Baseline High-Precision Dgps For Smart Snow Blower, Yunlong Luo, Zi Bin Weng, Yihong Qi, Lei Deng, Wei Yu, Fuhai Li, James L. Drewniak, Weihua Zhuang, Miao Miao, Jing Huang

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

High-precision positioning is critical for many Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications; however, most existing approaches are too expensive to be used in commercial products. A highly accurate differential global positioning system (DGPS) has not been widely used because of the difficulty in solving integer ambiguities in the single-frequency carrier phase. Multipath interference and receiver noise are the main reasons for limiting the DGPS accuracy and efficiency in solving integer ambiguities. In this article, we propose a combination of anti-multipath antennas and high-performance GPS receivers to effectively mitigate impairments due to multipath propagation and receiver noise. Furthermore, by exploiting more data available from …

Carbon dioxide (CO2) injection is one of the most applied enhanced oil recovery methods in the hydrocarbon industry, since it has the potential to increase oil recovery significantly and can help reduce greenhouse gases through carbon storage in hydrocarbon reservoirs. Carbon dioxide injection has a severe drawback, however, since it induces asphaltene precipitation by disrupting the asphaltene stability in crude oil that bears even the slightest asphaltene concentration. This can result in severe operational problems, such as reservoir pore plugging and wellbore plugging. This research investigates some of the main factors that impact asphaltene stability in crude oil …

Poly (Lactic Acid)/Nanoclay Nanocomposites For Packaging Applications, Maissa Akram Adi

Theses

With increasing stringent environmental regulations and attempts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels for polymer production, bio-based polymers are receiving appreciable global attention. In this context, bio-based poly (lactic acid) (PLA) is one of the most frequently used polymers in packaging applications. However, despite of its high versatility, this polymer is limited in packaging applications due to its low mechanical properties. The two-dimensional nanofillers such as nanoclay and graphene are well known for improving the thermo-mechanical properties of polymers at low concentrations. However, increasing higher filler concentration to improve barrier properties of polymers reduces their mechanical properties which is a …
