Hyperspectral Image Analysis For Mechanical And Chemical Properties Of Concrete And Steel Surfaces, Genda Chen
Hyperspectral Image Analysis For Mechanical And Chemical Properties Of Concrete And Steel Surfaces, Genda Chen
INSPIRE-UTC Annual Meetings
A typical human eye will respond to wavelengths from approximately 400 to 700 nm. A hyperspectral camera can extend the wavelength to as high as 2500 nm. This extension will allow engineers to find objects, identify materials, and detect processes on structural surface, which cannot be done with visual inspection.
This project aims to develop an open-source catalogue of concrete and steel surfaces and their spectral/spatial features (discoloration, characteristic wavelength, roughness, texture, shape, etc.), extract spatial/spectral features of hyperspectral images, and develop/train a multi-class classification or regression classifier through machine learnings (supervised and/or semi-supervised), and validate the classifier as a …

Autonomous Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement By A Magnet-Wheeled Robot, Yang Wang
INSPIRE-UTC Annual Meetings
A wireless sensing device recently developed by PI Wang’s group has demonstrated various structural sensing capabilities for bridge applications. In the meantime, a latest robot platform developed by Dr. La’s group at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) demonstrates promising performance navigating on steel bridge members. Marrying the two state-of-the-art developments, this project will produce a magnet-wheeled robot capable of autonomous nondestructive measurement on steel bridge structures. Both laboratory and field validations will be performed.
This project will integrate advanced wireless sensing technologies to the UNR robot platform. At first, the functionality of ultrasonic thickness measurement will be developed on …
In-Line Long Period Grating And Brillouin Scattering Fiber Optic Sensors For Strain, Temperature, Chloride Concentration, And Steel Mass Loss Measurement In Bridge Applications, Chuanrui Guo
INSPIRE-UTC Annual Meetings
Corrosion is the main reason for costly maintenance of aging transportation infrastructure in the U.S. Since 2008, the PI’s group has developed long period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors for point strain and steel mass loss measurements. When attached on a steel bar, a LPFG sensor doped with nano iron/silica particles and polyurethane can monitor the corrosion process of steel. However, the coating of particles with polyurethane was not robust. In addition, chloride concentration is important for the prediction of early corrosion in practice. Compared to grating sensors, Brillouin scattering based sensors have lower spatial resolution but offer a cost-effective solution …

Application Of Fuzzy Pid Control Based On Neutral Network On High/Low Temperature Environmental Simulation System, Jingwang Jiang, Yunjie Wu, Mengchen Wu
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: High/Low Temperature Environmental Simulation System is mainly used for the functional deploying test of the giant space deployable antenna and some large-scale structures at extreme high/low temperatures, and some other relevant tests. This project requests controlling the parameters of the system in a large range with high accuracy and no overshoot. Temperature control system has features of non-linearity, time-variant, and large delay, which seriously affect the speed and accuracy of the control. However, the conventional PID finds it difficult to achieve desired effect of control. A new scheme of compound control which is referred to as fuzzy-PID control based …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Based on the three predominant algorithms (Implicitly Restarted Krylov-Schur Method and Jacobi-Davidson Method ) and The PANDA Framework, a large-scale parallel computing system for modal analysis was established. The finite element model of typical wave-rider hypersonic vehicle was established and its dynamic characteristics were investigated. Design Of Unified Algorithm For Sampling Mpdu, Ti Zhou, Miao Yi, Yang Jian
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The standard of CCSDS AOS is used in space exploration because of the process of the standard airspace system. The spacecraft missions have used multi-protocol data unit (MPDU) to multiplex the package channels. The range of MPDU and the data are different in different spacecrafts. This process brings some problems in the maintenance and the correctness of the algorithms of virtual channel multiplexing in simulation system. The applications of CCSDS in the world were researched, and the general definitions of MPDU in these missions were described. A circle memory was given to buffer the data of MPDU, two general …

The mapping relationship between WIFTCPN and fuzzy time, time delay and intuition fuzzy inference rules were established. Furthermore, corresponding reasoning decision simulation model under uncertain information was built by using CPN Tools. The properties including liveness, home and fairness …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The current methods of human action recognition by computer vision are mostly based on hand-craft features and usually prior knowledge-required. They inevitably depend on specific applications and neglect the inner structure of visional information. A novel method which integrated self-learned pose features and combined posture symbol rules was proposed to achieve the recognition of human action more efficiently. The structural features of posture silhouette were extracted and a codebook of primary posture was built through the establishment of a sparse auto-encoder network. Then, in the phase of recognition, the Hidden Markov Model was employed to train the models …

Group-Based Image Compositing In Heterogeneous Environments, Liu Ning, Dengming Zhu, Zhaoqi Wang, Wei Yi
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Image compositing requires dense inter-node communications and could easily become the bottleneck of a parallel visualization system. Conventional image compositing algorithms assume the environment is homogeneous and take no heterogeneity into consideration. In a heterogeneous environment, this assumption is likely to cause unreasonable load distribution among the nodes. To address this problem, we present a group-based image compositing algorithm in heterogeneous environments. It is able to distribute the workloads among the nodes according to computing and networking characteristics of the heterogeneous environments. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation on the ns-3 network simulator. Experiment results shows that when the environment …

We investigate the influence of near-surface wind conditions on subsurface gas transport and on soil-atmosphere gas exchange for gases of different density. Results of a sand tank experiment are supported by a numerical investigation with a fully coupled porous medium-free flow model, which accounts for wind turbulence. The experiment consists of a two-dimensional bench-scale soil tank containing homogeneous sand and an overlying wind tunnel. A point source was installed at the bottom of the tank. Gas concentrations were measured at multiple horizontal and vertical locations. Tested conditions include four wind velocities (0.2/1.0/2.0/2.7 m/s), three different gases (helium: light, nitrogen: neutral, …

Dissertations and Theses
Radiation Therapy (RT) is a common treatment for cancerous lesions that acts by ionizing matter in the affected tissue, causing cell death. The disadvantage of RT is that it is most often delivered via an external beam of radiation which must pass through healthy tissues to reach the target site, ionizing matter within healthy tissues as well. To address this drawback, techniques are being developed for increasing RT-induced cell death in a target tissue while minimizing cell death in surrounding tissues. This effect is known as radiation dose enhancement or RT enhancement.
The approach to RT enhancement studied in this …
