Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive
Air side economization is an arrangement of duct, damper and automatic control system which together allow introducing outside air to reduce the mechanical cooling during mild or cold weather thereby decrease the energy consumption. The outside ambient air and heated return air from the information technology (IT) pod is mixed inside a dedicated space to achieve a target cold aisle operating temperature and thereby increase economization. Major constrain faced by the design engineers while designing the Mixing Chamber/ Plenum is the stratification of air stream due to the Temperature gradient in the mixed air stream and this stratification can be …

It is pivotal to identify the key project, organizational, and human factors that lead to the rework. Therefore, this study investigated, identified, and prioritized the human, organization, and project-based manageable indicators of rework. In addition, successful strategies which lead to overcoming rework challenges were evaluated. …
Long Term Performance Monitoring Of Shallow Slope Stabilization Utilizing Recycled Plastic Pins, Cory Alan Rauss
Long Term Performance Monitoring Of Shallow Slope Stabilization Utilizing Recycled Plastic Pins, Cory Alan Rauss
Civil Engineering Theses - Archive
Shallow slope failures are prevalent within the North Texas region. As highway slopes are underlain with high plastic clayey soils that experience cyclic shrinking and swelling, the soils shear strength generally decreases as the soil softens, making the soil more susceptible to sloughing and landslides. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) generally executes a rapid repair method as an economical option for repairing the slope. This method includes the failed soil removal, replacement, and recompaction to rectify the slope surface. While economical initially, this rapid repair technique may potentially prove to be costly with repeated repairs as the method does …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Modern networks are becoming increasingly more complex, heterogeneous, and densely connected. While more diverse services are enabled to an ever-increasing number of users through ubiquitous networking and pervasive computing, several important challenges have emerged. For example, densely connected networks are prone to higher levels of interference, which makes them more vulnerable to jamming attacks. Also, the utilization of software-based protocols to perform routing, load balancing and power management functions in Software-Defined Networks gives rise to more vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious users and adversaries. Moreover, the increased reliance on cloud computing services due to a growing demand for …

Deep learning coupled with existing sensors based multiresolution traffic data and future connected technologies has immense potential to improve traffic operation and management. But to deal with complex transportation problems, we need efficient modeling frameworks for deep learning models. In this study, we propose two different modeling frameworks using Deep Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network (LSTM NN) model to predict future traffic state (speed and signal queue length). In our first problem, we present a modeling framework using deep LSTM NN model to predict traffic speeds in freeways during regular traffic condition as well as under extreme traffic demand, such …
Vibration Reduction Of Mistuned Bladed Disks Via Piezoelectric-Based Resonance Frequency Detuning, Garrett Lopp
Vibration Reduction Of Mistuned Bladed Disks Via Piezoelectric-Based Resonance Frequency Detuning, Garrett Lopp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Recent trends in turbomachinery blade technology have led to increased use of monolithically constructed bladed disks (blisks). Although offering a wealth of performance benefits, this construction removes the blade-attachment interface present in the conventional design, thus unintentionally removing a source of friction-based damping needed to counteract large vibrations during resonance passages. This issue is further exacerbated in the presence of blade mistuning that arises from small imperfections from otherwise identical blades and are unavoidable as they originate from manufacturing tolerances and operational wear over the lifespan of the engine. Mistuning is known to induce vibration localization with large vibration amplitudes …

Nanowire Based Adsorbents/Catalysts For Co2 Capture And Utilization., Apolo Nambo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Even today, the major energy source is fossil fuels, which release CO2, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. CO2 capture, storage (CCS) and/or utilization (CCU) technologies are two routes to mitigate this problem. Sorbents are being investigated in either temperature swing or pressure swing absorption approaches for carbon capture from flue gases. Solid sorbent based technology is a promising one but suffers from slow kinetics, low capacity and need for high temperatures. Thus, new sorbent materials that can have good CO2 sorption capacity, recyclability are sought. Similarly, one of the utilization approaches for CO …

Plasma-Assisted Liquid Phase Epitaxy Of Gallium Nitride Using Molten Gallium., Daniel Felipe Jaramillo-Cabanzo
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Next generation semiconductor materials such as Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) are rapidly replacing Silicon (Si) for high power and high frequency applications due to Si’s inherent limitations. Despite the advantages of GaN over SiC, adoption of GaN has been hindered due to the lack of a cost-effective bulk production technique. Thus, the inability to precure native substrates requires GaN-based architectures to be heteroepitaxially synthesized on non-native substrates, such as sapphire and even SiC. This research seeks to develop a cost effective and scalable method to produce low defect, bulk GaN encouraging the adoption of GaN based devices …
