History Of Ordnance Technical Intelligence In World War Ii, Part 1: History, Orders & Circulars, And Publicity, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

During World War II, the Ordnance Department was one of the army technical services. There were a number of technical services including the Chemical Warfare Service, the Army Medical Department, the Corps of Engineers, the Quartermaster Corps, the Signal Corps, and the Transportation Corps. The technical services were bureaus providing weapons, equipment, and services to the Army. They managed the careers of officers in their corresponding branches, and organized special military units. They also ran schools to train individual and military units in their specialties.

During World War II the emphasis of technical intelligence was foreign weapons and equipment. The …

A Study Of The Effect Of Fine Aggregates On The Durability Of Concrete, S. T. Collier

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Research Projects C-14 and C-15 were set up as purely laboratory studies with the same objective; that is, to study the affect upon the strength and durability of normal portland cement concrete by supplementing portions of standard concrete sand with variable amounts of "Fine" sand (sands passing Size No. 30 sieve). This investigation is not correlated with any Highway Department field projects. Project C-14 was begun June 16, 1944 and test completed April 20, 1945. Project C-15 was begun August 2, 1944 and tests were completed August 1, 1945.

Test 379: Bear Cat Model 3000-1, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

Nebraska Farm Building Data For North-East Counties Taken From U.S. Census, R. M. Loper

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

Fluctuation in the number of farms since the start of the century reflects economic trends, drouth effects and the results of increasing mechanization, particularly since 1935.

The 1945 figures also show the influence of land taken out of production for use as air bases, ordnance plants and ammuition depots. No doubt some of this will be returned eventually to agricultural uses. Since the buildings were removed from this land during the war some new sets probably. will be constructed when individual ownership is obtained again. Such activities present excellent opportunities for developing farmsteads efficiently and attractively arranged; buildings designed to …

An Outline Of Prospective Research For The Highway Materials Research Laboratory, L. E. Gregg Dec 1945

An Outline Of Prospective Research For The Highway Materials Research Laboratory, L. E. Gregg

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The following outline and comments are intended to serve as a general guide for future endeavors of the Highway Materials Research Laboratory, and as a basis for discussion among Members of the Research Board. For the most part these will provide a structure within which the details of individual projects may be classified and from which the subject matter for separate studies may be drawn. By preparing such a plan, but recognizing the need for deviation when unforeseen situations arise, it is hoped that the possibilities for maintaining a comprehensive but well integrated research program may be enhanced.

Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering Tests On Light Beams Of Cold-Formed Steel, Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT In the Thirty-eighth Progress Report a series of 118 tests was reported on web crippling under concentrated loads. These 118 tests which included 17 representative tests of the Twenty-fifth Progress Report were carried out for web crippling by loads on the span, by simple end reactions, by end reactions with additional loads on top flange, and by reactions of continuous supports with similar additional loads. Two formulas were developed from the entire series of tests which represented, for the two cases (loads on span, and reactions), all test results with satisfactory accuracy. However, only 8 …

Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering Tests On Light Beams Of Cold-Formed Steel, Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT In the Twenty-fifth Progress Report a series of twenty-three tests was reported on web crippling under concentrated loads. On the basis of these tests the design requirements of section 4.9 of the Tentative Specifications (April 1944 edition) were written. The scope of these tests, however, was not broad enough to insure safe design stipulations for all important cases for the following reasons: (a) Of the twenty-three tests six were conducted with roller loading (zero bearing length), and therefore are not represetative of acutal conditions. This leaves only seventeen representative tests. (b) all tests were conducted …

Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering Tests On Light Beams Of Cold-Formed Steel, Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT This report contains the complete evaluation of test results of the I-beam tests reported on in the 33rd and 34th Beam Reports. In considering the results of this evaluation, two factors should be kept in mind which adversely affect the accuracy of results: (l) These beams were designed primarily to serve as control specimens for future channel tests. Their usefulness in verifying the equivalent width approach is somewhat impaired by the fact that the compression flanges represent only a rather small part of the total cross-sectional area. Thus, a moderate change of equivalent width of …

Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering Tests On Light Beams Of Cold-Formed Steel, Cornell University School Of Civil Engineering

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT Tests were conducted on nine beams with unstiffened top flanges, viz., 14-2 1/4-1,2,3; 16-2 1/2-1,2,3; 16-3,1,2,3. Beam 14-2 1/4 - 2 was the first to be spot-welded in our shop. This beam warped badly in welding and, when tested, failed at a much lower load thant the other two beams of the same type, due to initial distortion. For this reason the results of this test were discarded and are not included in this report. Beams 18-2 1/2 according to our drawing were to be of 18 ga. metal. It turned out, however, that all …
