Family Strengths Among Black Families In Alaska: A Case Study, Washington W. Brown Jr. Feb 1991

Family Strengths Among Black Families In Alaska: A Case Study, Washington W. Brown Jr.

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The idea of a strong family is a very subjective concept. A strength, according to one set of criteria, could easily be interpreted as a weakness according to another set of criteria--and vice-versa. Most scholars of the family would agree that a strong bond of affection between family members is usually an asset. But if this affection is manifested in extremely dependent and stifling relationships among family members, such a bond would generally be characterized as a "pathological" liability. The family has traditionally provided the foundation for society, and, though in contemporary America some of its functions have been absorbed …

A Comparative Analysis Of Student Success On The College Level Academic Skills Test When Instructor Characteristics Are Considered, Anna M. Puzsik

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The tremendous increase of part-time faculty members has been well documented in recent years and continued growth trends are predicted. From 1970 to 1980, part-time faculty members increased faster than full-time faculty and recent studies estimate that at least one in every three faculty members is employed part-time. While the use of adjunct faculty has helped many colleges adjust to uncertain and fluctuating funding patterns, the instructional efficacy of the use of adjunct faculty may be questioned. In Florida, this nationwide trend is of particular importance since students must take and pass a test of college-level computation and communication skills …
