Students entering beginning IBM-compatible computer courses have a wide range of experience in the Disk Operating System (DOS). A large number have little or no knowledge and are very apprehensive and anxious. Others have experience and are bored when the rest of the class is learning DOS. A hypertext computer-assisted instruction (CAI) program was developed to teach DOS to a beginning class with J variety of backgrounds. The CAI program was demonstrated in class, and the students used the program in a computer lab, The results showed that more students passed a DOS proficiency test after eight weeks using the …

Identifying Solid Geometric Figures By Appearance As A Whole, Paul C. Padgett Jr. May 1989

Identifying Solid Geometric Figures By Appearance As A Whole, Paul C. Padgett Jr.

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The author wrote and instituted a microcomputer software program to increase the ability of secondary students to identify solid figures of geometry. A target group of twelve Algebra I students from an urban high school was established to implement the program. The success of the program was measured by comparing the statistics of a pre and posttest. The results indicated that increased level of indent if identification was found by the target group target using the microcomputer program.

Development Of A Computer Program To Improve Sixth Graders Use Of A Local Area Network, Shirley S. Castoldi May 1988

Development Of A Computer Program To Improve Sixth Graders Use Of A Local Area Network, Shirley S. Castoldi

This practicum was developed in response to a concern that a week-long Orientation Program did not eliminate the difficulties experienced by sixth graders "signing- on" the school’s Local Area Network. Class printouts demonstrated a noticeable discrepancy between the number of skills students were programmed to complete and the actual number completed. To remedy this situation, a computer program was developed to introduce practicum participants to networking; to explain the "signing-on" process in a clear, concise way; and to demonstrate the proper use of the computer control keys needed to successfully use the networking software. Results showed marked improvement in the …

Developing Music History Knowledge Through Computer-Assisted Instruction, Elaine A. Meils

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

A team effort led by the author developed and implemented a model program designed to improve fifth grade students’ knowledge of music history through computer- assisted instruction. The goals of the program were to have the student be able to identify the different periods of music history, music styles of those periods, composers and various writing styles of the composers. The program contained four basic components: pre-test, implementation, post-test and results. After the fifth grade students were randomly chosen, a pre-test was conducted and the implementation began. Following the implementation period the author conducted a post-test, the findings of the …

Effective Testing Procedures For Partial Vision Students Utilizing The Microcomputer, Deborah K. Emmons Jul 1986

Effective Testing Procedures For Partial Vision Students Utilizing The Microcomputer, Deborah K. Emmons

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

A testing program utilizing a voice synthesizer and double-sized graphics was developed for high school partial vision students in a Business Education Microcomputer Applications class. Prior to the program, partial vision students had failing test grades. In order to take a test, the partial vision student had to go to a resource lab to use a reader. This took a great amount of time and the partial vision student missed regular classroom activities. The program was implemented for 10 weeks. After the partial vision students were trained to use the speech synthesizer for one week, tests were administered on the …
