Faculty Research & Creative Activity
The article was based on a section of my 1966 master's thesis from Syracuse University, in which I surveyed the Grand Chapter officers and undergraduates from two chapters of a national fraternity on several topics that I thought were important to fraternity life at that time. Interestingly, the article remains one of relatively few focues on the fraternity ritual and its application to daily life even after 45 years' time. The journal, College Student Survey, no longer appears to be published.

A Study In The Use Of An Inductive-Deductive Audio-Lingual Approach To Teaching Standard English Usage, Douglas Delano Patterson
All Master's Theses
If an aspect of the English teacher's job is to teach the non-standard speaker a different language (in part, at least), perhaps teachers should examine the process through which the child first learns his language. All Master's Theses
This study investigated one prediction of Guthrie's theory of learning (1936, 1952)--that retention in the goal box after reinforcement increases the likelihood of incompatible responses to the goal stimuli and, thus, decreases learning. Three measures of learning were used: number of trials to criterion, total number of correct trials in the first twenty trials, and number of subjects who met criterion of five successive correct responses within forty trials.
