Purpose – One explicit leadership role the chief executive officer (CEO) can play during crisis is to assume the role of being the organization's spokesperson. What remains unclear is at what point of the crisis should the CEO step up and how does that impact crisis communication? The purpose of this paper is to examine this question. Design/methodology/approach – The meta-analysis method is used to combine different data in various studies of one topic into one comprehensive study. More than 30 crises are meta-analyzed. The Impact Of Manager's Orientation On The Job Satisfaction Of Their Subordinates, Sarwat Sultan, Afia Hanif

Business Review

The present research was designed to explore the impact of manager’s orientation on the job satisfaction of their subordinates. The sample consisted of 120 employees; 20 managers and 100 of their subordinates ranging in age from 23 to 54 taken from different organizations of Multan. Motivator’s Orientation Questionnaire (Deci, Connell, & Ryan 1989) and Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (Hackman & Oldham, 1975) were used to collect the information. Results indicated that subordinates working under autonomy oriented managers are more satisfied with their jobs as compared to the subordinates working under controlled oriented managers. Summary -- Entrepreneurial Uncertainty: What Do Stakeholders Look For?, Douglas A. Bosse, Jeffrey S. Harrison

Management Faculty Publications

This paper proposes that in the early stages of a venture entrepreneurs can reduce uncertainty for stakeholders -- and raise the probability of attracting desirable stakeholders -- by exhibiting behaviors associated with fairness and justice. Actors base their reciprocal behaviors -- both positive and negative -- on their subjective perceptions of distributive, procedural and interactional justice. Thus, entrepreneurs can influence perceptions of fairness in early interactions with stakeholders. This paper extends the logic of reciprocity and fairness to the setting in which entrepreneurial firms are seeking to attract desirable stakeholders in order to commercialize innovations.

My Thesis study was designed to bring to topic certain issues involved with CMC (computer-mediated communication.) Often we are presented with confusing or misleading situations when it comes to expressing our emotions through technological means. It is important that we are aware of certain issues such as the use of emoticons, expressing sarcasm, and the ongoing trend of Internet slang. These various aspects can create confusion in CMC, leading to a loss in translation. My survey study was designed to probe deeper into these issues by asking general questions and by analyzing sample CMC scenarios.
