Capital Recycling And Moral Hazard In The Securitization Market, Brian Coulter

Securitization allows the recycling of scarce bank capital but exacerbates the moral hazard problem inherent in banks' private choices of loan monitoring. In a model combining these aspects of the securitization market, I show that an appropriately-designed proportional retention requirement, if implementable, may improve social welfare. I then consider if rating agencies may mitigate the moral hazard problem of banks. I illustrate that rating inflation may occur with perfectly rational investors, and that mandating credit rating may further exacerbate rating inaccuracy. Therefore, even given market imperfections, governments may optimally leave rating agencies unregulated.

Many rural Nebraskans say they already recycle a lot and face no barriers. However, many rural Nebraskans cite lack of programs and difficulty getting materials to drop-off sites as barriers to recycling. Persons living in or near smaller communities are more likely than persons living in or near larger communities to say their community doesn’t offer recycling. However, most rural Nebraskans say their community offers either curbside pickup or drop-off recycling for all of the materials listed with the exception of glass bottles.

The paper investigates whether organisational commitment is culturally bound. Literature was reviewed on the impact of Hofstede’s four dimensions of culture on organisational commitment. Three hypotheses were put forward in relation to the cultural impact on the three components of organisational commitment: affective, normative and continuance commitment. Data was collected from two branches of an American multinational corporation with operations in China and Ireland. The two cultures were chosen as they demonstrate differences as well as similarities on Hofstede’s dimensions, which provided an opportunity to explore the cultural impact. The purpose of this study is to compare the impact of portable body sensing technology (SW3 Armband) to a traditional approach, a Physical Activity Logbook (PAL) in promoting physical activity adherence. Participant’s physical activity adherence levels were recorded over a six month period. The primary research involved a six month physical activity programme that commenced in October 2010 and finished in April 2011. Females (n=30) were recruited through a local newspaper and a radio advertisement. Participants were randomised to an Intervention Group (n=15) or a Control Group (n=15). This paper examines different aspects of fair trade marketing. Firstly, secondary research examines the development, advantages and challenges of fair trade. Secondly, primary research explores consumer buying behaviour in Ireland and Austria in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) market. Thirdly, the attitudes of consumers towards mainstreaming and clean-washing are explored. Phase one of the data collection involved one hundred and twenty consumer surveys. In phase two exploratory research using mixed modes collected data from nine suppliers of fair trade FMCGs. Data, collected through phone interviews with 250 patients discharged from a hospital, support that: (1) patient delight and satisfaction have positive influences on behavioral intentions (2) environmental and interpersonal service quality have positive influences on patient satisfaction and patient delight however, (3) patient satisfaction mediates the relationship between environmental and interpersonal service quality and patient delight

In this article the authors explore similarities and differences in skill needs of IT service providers and the firms that providers service (clients). The results show that providers and clients are more similar than different with regard to desired skills. Client firms emphasize technical skills for new hires more than providers do despite saying that these are the skills they would outsource to providers. The results have implications for organizations’ recruiting and retention, for individuals’ career development, and for educational programs.

In this paper we build and test theory concerning a significant threat to the accuracy of information requirements, termed the misinformation effect. Misinformation is distorted, false, or other erroneous or misleading information that does not reflect the true state of the world or state of mind of the person communicating the information. Conservation of resources (COR) theory posits that people strive to retain and protect valued resources and that multiple resources are preferred to aid coping (Hobfoll & Shirom, 2000). I examine the interaction of two resources – need for cognition (NFC) and ability to manage resources – and their interactive effects on depressed mood at work (DMW). Results support my predictions that individuals high in both (NFC and ability to manage resources) reported lower levels of DMW. I discuss the strengths, limitations, and directions for future research.

Some consumers have preferences for domestic products while other, seemingly similar, consumers prefer the foreign counterpart. I investigate the evolution of corporate dividend policy in response to the changing operating environment induced by economic deregulation from the 1970s-1990s. Specifically, I examine the impact of deregulation on the firm's propensity to pay dividends, dividend payout ratio, the sensitivity of corporate dividend policy to current and past earnings, changes in the information content of dividends, and changes in corporate financing behavior along the deregulation process. Empirical results reveal that economic deregulation per se does not have significant impacts on firms' propensity to pay dividends. While defending against hacking is important, businesses should not ignorewhat should be easily preventable security incidents. Studies reveal that accidents cause one-fourth to one-third of breaches of personal information.This study analyzes breach incidents that occurred through unintended disclosure and discarded non-electronic data. The results reveal there is asignificant difference in the number of incidents per institution and persubtype. Education and Government had the highest number of incidents and most breaches are exposed via the Internet.

Sportsbook behavior is tested for NCAA basketball using actual sportsbook betting percentages from on-line sportsbooks. The balanced book hypothesis of thetraditional sportsbook models does not appear to hold, as favorites attract more than 50% of the bets. Although there is some slight evidence toward shading theline in these directions, there is also not overwhelming evidence of the Levitt (2004)hypothesis, as sportsbooks do not appear to be actively pricing to maximize profits.
