The Drivers Of Future Generosity Behavioral Intentions Of College Service-Learning Experience Participants, Jeananne Nicholls Apr 2012

The Drivers Of Future Generosity Behavioral Intentions Of College Service-Learning Experience Participants, Jeananne Nicholls

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

This research provides insight into the drivers of generosity behavioral intentions. Behavioral reasoning theory (BRT) is used as the framework for this investigation. First, in BRT, attitudes directly predict behavior and behavioral intentions (Ajzen, 2008; Ranganathan & Henley, 2008; Webb, Green, & Brashear, 2000; Westaby, 2005a, 2005b, 2006). Second, attitudes influence the relationship between "reasons" and behavioral intentions as demonstrated in several studies by Westaby (2005a, 2005b, 2006). Third, the reasons construct has two components: reasons for and reasons against a behavior (Westaby, 2006). Westaby (2005a,2005b) and Briggs. Peterson, and Gregory (2010) empirically explore this construct and demonstrate that it …

Antecedents And Outcomes Of The Investment In Internal Auditing And The Moderating Role Of Family Business Culture, Debra J. Lasher

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

While the internal auditing function (IAF) has been studied extensively in publicly traded firms, relatively little is known about the function and related outcomes among privately held family businesses. However, family businesses play a leading role in economic production and employment in the U.S. and globally. The blending of family culture with organizational culture in family businesses is a key aspect that differs from nonfamily businesses and across family businesses. This research develops the new construct of family business culture as a replicable measure of the influence of the combined cultures of the family and the business. Both essays include …

Job Embeddedness: Do The Interaction Effects Of Attitude, Personality, And Exchange Relationships Detract From Performance?, Juanne V. Greene Apr 2012

Job Embeddedness: Do The Interaction Effects Of Attitude, Personality, And Exchange Relationships Detract From Performance?, Juanne V. Greene

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

Job embeddedness (JE) research has considered the web of connections that attach an individual to their work organization. Empirical evidence suggests that high JE is related to reduced turnover and improved individual task performance. Scholars have also suggested the potential for negative implications of JE when the web of connections serves to trap the individual in the organization. This study explores the boundary conditions that may add light to this potential dark side of JE by considering how variance in individual attitude, personality, and exchange relationships may moderate the relationship between JE and both performance and counterproductive behavior. Moderated hierarchical …

A New Non-Parametric Test For Umbrella Alternatives, Gilbert Ngwa Muma Apr 2012

A New Non-Parametric Test For Umbrella Alternatives, Gilbert Ngwa Muma

Dissertations

The Mann-Whitney statistics have commonly been used as a building block for many tests involving ordered and umbrella alternatives. Such tests are based on pair wise information that is obtained from all Ck 2 pairs of samples. This dissertation introduces a new nonparametric test for testing umbrella alternatives in a completely randomized one way design. This test is based on information obtained from a subset of the Ck 3 trios of samples. Unlike most existing tests for umbrella alternatives, the new test lays emphasis on the importance of testing across the peak of the umbrella, thereby rendering the new test …

Essays On Spatial Analysis Of Foreign Direct Investment And Economic Growth Determinants In Developing Countries, Uwaoma George Nwaogu Apr 2012

Essays On Spatial Analysis Of Foreign Direct Investment And Economic Growth Determinants In Developing Countries, Uwaoma George Nwaogu

Dissertations

This dissertation uses spatial econometric technique to investigate the role of spatial interdependence/third-country effects on Multinational Enterprises (MNE’s) for affiliate location choice, spillover effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) determinants, and the economic growth of developing countries. Unlike non-spatial models, the advantage of spatial econometric models lies in their ability to capture cross-country interdependence and spillover effects of explanatory variables.

The first essay employs a spatial autoregressive model and data on U.S. outbound FDI to investigate whether U.S. FDI into Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) depends on previous U.S. FDI in these regions. Additionally, the study investigates the …

As government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have many special advantages that other publically traded companies did not possess. These advantages allowed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to increase their profitability. Theoretical literature …

Challenges Of The Cooperative Movement In Addressing Issues Of Human Security In The Context Of A Neoliberal World: The Case Of Argentina, Stefan Ivanovski

Honors Theses

The response of some Argentine workers to the 2001 crisis of neoliberalism gave rise to a movement of worker-recovered enterprises (empresas recuperadas por sus trabajadores or ERTs). The ERTs have emerged as former employees took over the control of generally fraudulently bankrupt factories and enterprises. The analysis of the ERT movement within the neoliberal global capitalist order will draw from William Robinson’s (2004) neo-Gramscian concept of hegemony. The theoretical framework of neo-Gramscian hegemony will be used in exposing the contradictions of capitalism on the global, national, organizational and individual scales and the effects they have on the ERT movement.

The …

Effects That Previous Employment Experiences Had On Organizational Commitment Of An Hourly Workforce, Charles August Bartocci Apr 2012

Effects That Previous Employment Experiences Had On Organizational Commitment Of An Hourly Workforce, Charles August Bartocci

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

A committed workforce is critical to the success of any organization. While there was a great deal of debate on how to best describe commitment, one model that attracted a significant following is the Three Component Model (TCM) developed by Meyer and Allen (1988). While it may be argued that the model is a mixed model combining attitudinal and behavioral measures, researchers have largely agreed that the scale that measures affective commitment is both valid and reliable. How commitment is developed in a workforce is of considerable interest. A minority of researchers have considered a variety of antecedents that contribute …

An Investigation Into The Relationship Between An Engineering Manager's Purpose-Seeking Beliefs And Behaviors And The Engineering Manager's Perception Of Employee Creativity, Initiative And Purpose-Seeking Behavior, Charles Burton Daniels Apr 2012

An Investigation Into The Relationship Between An Engineering Manager's Purpose-Seeking Beliefs And Behaviors And The Engineering Manager's Perception Of Employee Creativity, Initiative And Purpose-Seeking Behavior, Charles Burton Daniels

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Organizations have placed an overwhelming emphasis on extrinsic motivation of its workforce, normally in the form of financial incentives, in an attempt to assure individual and organizational high performance. While a significant level of financial resources is expended in this attempt to predict and influence employee behavior, no objective evidence exists of a favorable return of investment. In fact, the primary impact of most extrinsic motivation might actually be demotivation – the opposite of the intended use.

In this research the prevailing literature was examined and a conclusion about the power of both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation was synthesized to …

Second, can we use those predictions to develop an algorithm to determine if a problem will occur in an acquisition program or subprogram? Lastly, can we provide the probability of a problem occurring within a given timeframe? We find three of our models establish …

The Effect Of Supply Chain Management Processes On Competitive Advantage And Organizational Performance, Ronald M. Salazar Mar 2012

The Effect Of Supply Chain Management Processes On Competitive Advantage And Organizational Performance, Ronald M. Salazar

Theses and Dissertations

One of the most significant changes in the paradigm of modern business management is that individual businesses no longer compete as solely autonomous entities, but rather as supply chains. In this emerging competitive environment, the ultimate success of the business will depend on management's ability to integrate the company's intricate network of business relationships. Effective supply chain management (SCM) has become a potentially valuable way of securing competitive advantage and improving organizational performance since competition is no longer between organizations, but among supply chains. This research conceptualizes and develops three dimensions of SCM practice (supplier relationship management, manufacturing flow management, …

The Impact Of Supply Chain Business Processes On Competitive Advantage And Organizational Performance, John F. Perry Ii Mar 2012

The Impact Of Supply Chain Business Processes On Competitive Advantage And Organizational Performance, John F. Perry Ii

Theses and Dissertations

Organizational performance has routinely been viewed through a limited scope primarily focused on functions, practices, and resources directly controlled by the focal organization, but supply chain management (SCM) has broadened this scope to incorporate all organizations along the supply chain. This shifted the notion of competition from that of between individual organizations to between supply chains. Supply chain management is an ever growing field; multiple SCM frameworks exist today and are being further developed and defined. Successful firms must reside on the leading edge of management techniques, theories, and practices in order to stay competitive in an ever growing, more …

The Relationship Between Key Supply Chain Process Implementation, Competitive Advantage, & Organizational Performance, Anthonelli White Jr.

Theses and Dissertations

In spite of an ever-accumulating body of research on the topic of supply chain management (SCM), an agreed upon definition or framework regarding its essential constructs or practices does not exist. One such perspective is that presented by the Global Supply Chain Forum (GSCF). This study applies established survey methods to expand the body of knowledge pertaining to SCM by empirically validating the relationships conceptualized by the GSCF framework through an analysis of the perception of mid-level managers and senior-level …
