Using Dynamic Cellular Manufacturing To Simplify Scheduling In Cell Based Production Systems, Vijay R. Kannan, Soumen Ghosh Jan 1995

Using Dynamic Cellular Manufacturing To Simplify Scheduling In Cell Based Production Systems, Vijay R. Kannan, Soumen Ghosh

Management Faculty Publications

Previous research has shown that the formation of temporary, logical manufacturing cells in a job shop, overcomes problems of high setup frequency typically found in job shops. In addition, this form of cellular configuration is more flexible than tranditional, group technology based cellular configurations. This research demonstrates that an added benefit of a dynamic cellular configuration is that it simplifies production scheduling, eliminating the need for more complex dispatching rules. In particular, it eliminates the need for further setup reduction when scheduling parts from the same family. Improvements in performance when employing setup reduction are shown to occur only when …

The Use Of Object-Oriented Design Methodologies In Systems Design, Rick C. Larkin

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Object-oriented design methodologies, along with object-oriented programming techniques, have recently gained significant popularity as their advantages have become evident. Traditional methodologies following the structured approach have not been successful in providing an accurate model of the business system.Object-oriented techniques, where an object in the computer system corresponds to a real-world object, have been much more successful in accurately modeling the business system and its environment.

Object-oriented methodologies provide many advantages over structured approaches to systems design. Concepts such as data hiding, encapsulation, inheritance, dynamic binding, and polymorphism help to achieve an accurate and flexible system that is resistant to corruption …

Following the report, there is a conclusion which summarizes the points presented and explains why I believe the American public needs a mass education …

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The primary goal of vocational education is to prepare the student to successfully enter the world of work. While the present educational structure seems to work well for most Anglo-American students, there is evidence that the system is not effective with minority students. For example , in the case of Navajo students in government-sponsored technical schools, the dropout rate (60 percent) suggests that for Native American students there are serious problems in the educational process which need to be investigated and understood.

Because of the sharply different cultural background of the Navajo student a formidable barrier frequently exists between student …

According to Klieforth (1969), "technology, business, industry, communications, and other factors affecting our economic life are changing rapidly. Our educational system must keep up with these changes and prepare our youth for the world of work." Although many of our young people will desire a four-year degree (and in some cases, higher degrees), many are inclined toward a shorter, formal post-secondary education.

As evidenced by the phenomenal growth and development of the two-year colleges in the first half of this century (Goddard, 1962) many of our young people are looking at more vocational and technical education than ever before. This …

With typewriting being offered in one-third of the junior high schools, with three-fourths of them starting this program within the last ten years, and with almost three-fourth of the schools reporting an increase in enrollment within the past year, it is obvious that a prospective typewriting teacher may well expect to find himself in a junior high school

As these examples point out, there is a great need for our institutions of higher learning to be more responsive to the needs of the job market today.

For the past several years, colleges and universities have been criticized on the basis that they do not prepare young people …

The college class In personal-use typewriting is usually a one-semester class emphasizing composition …

Patterns Of Management Thought: The Search For New Perspectives, Howard M. Carlisle

Faculty Honor Lectures

the past several years, I have noticed that the presenters have typically done two things: they have reviewed some of their most significant research or theoretical contributions, and they have engaged in some freewheeling speculations or prescriptions about future trends. I intend to do both of these tonight. I would like to report on several aspects of contingency or situational theories of management where I have done most of my publishing, and I would also like to express some personal concerns and prescriptions I propose to improve the effectiveness of organizations
