The Impact Of Visual Cues And Service Behavior On The Consumer Retail Experience, Taylor Bjerk Dec 2015

The Impact Of Visual Cues And Service Behavior On The Consumer Retail Experience, Taylor Bjerk

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

With product differentiation low in the retail industry, businesses need to create strong brand images and increase customer loyalty in order to remain competitive. Visual merchandising is one tool that businesses have to communicate their message in a compelling and strategic manner. Within the scope of visual merchandising there are a number of atmospherics, or cues, which include visual, tactile, and auditory, that can be used in conjunction with one another to influence consumer behavior. Service encounters also have a strong influence on the consumer retail experience and must be managed effectively to make sure their influence is positive. All …

Targeting The Weak: A Content Analysis Of Violence In Advergames, Arshak Papazyan

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

With a rising trend of targeting children using various means of advertisement, the popularity of advergames has significantly increased. Although previous research suggests that negative content in advergames result in less favorable attitudes toward the game (Waiguny, et al., 2013), the presence of violence in advergames targeted to children aged three to ten years is significantly high. Despite the growing concern regarding violence in advergames and other means of advertisement targeted to children, research has not yet investigated the actual amount of violence in advergames. To shed light on this important issue, the present research discusses results of a descriptive …

One of the world’s most influential business leaders is a respected chief executive because, as she says, she “does not aspire to a title, but aspires to be a leader.” Cathy Engelbert leads more than 220,000 professionals as Chief Executive Officer for Deloitte LLP, and inspired hundreds of attendees at the recent Partners in Business Accounting conference at Utah State University. Engelbert’s leadership path started as captain of her collegiate basketball team. Attending Lehigh University on a lacrosse scholarship, she walked onto the women’s basketball team and later found herself leading her team on the court. As she maneuvered through …

From a textbook, I can learn about the United Nations: what it does, who it employs, how it works alongside national governments. But there is something surreal about being in the Geneva headquarters of the United Nations and realizing that working at such a renowned organization does not have to be a pipe dream. My semester of study and travel as a Huntsman Scholar has been filled with many such moments of clarity. Researching at Oxford University’s world-class Bodleian Library, witnessing the struggle of Syrian migrants firsthand on the Austrian-German border, learning from anAggie alum turned top-level executive at Barclays—all …

During the era when the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was passed, audit committees were given heightened responsibility and faced more stringent requirements. However, according to new research by Huntsman accounting professor ChadSimon and his co-authors (see cite below), Congress and others may have overlooked one potentially important incentive with these updated requirements. The research team found an association between barely achieving or surpassing an analyst forecast benchmark and the stock options audit committee members hold or their annual stock option receipts.

Assessing The Probability Of Bankruptcy, Jarom Heaps

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Knowing whether or not a company is financial stable has always been a top concern for analysts and money managers. This paper compares the effectiveness of default prediction using two different types of measures: accounting and market based. Accounting measures have been the most popular even though, according to theory, a market based measure reflects all available information. Theory goes as far to say that accounting measures can add no incremental value to a market based measure. In my research I found that accounting based measures can be effective in their predictive power; the market-based measure (BSM) results were much …

Why Do We Need More Women Leaders In Higher Education?, Susan R. Madsen Jul 2015

Why Do We Need More Women Leaders In Higher Education?, Susan R. Madsen

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

Research has shown that most managers and top leadership teams do not fully realize the value of having women in key positions, and this is the case across all sectors, including business, government, political, nonprofit, religious, community, and education (schools, colleges, and universities). Organizations will increasingly thrive when both men and women hold management and leadership roles. Gender inclusivity benefits not only businesses, but also entities such as churches, state legislatures, and city councils. This potential for greater thriving is also true for institutions of higher education in the U.S. and around the world. Understanding the value of inclusivity in …

Unselfish: Love Thy Neighbor As Thy Selfie, was released last month as a counterbalance to the current "selfie" culture prevalent in popular media.
