Malaysian Attitude Towards Standardisation Versus Adaptation : A Study Of Print Advertisements., Keng Siew Li

Student Works (2010-2019)

Global advertising has becoming essential with the popularity of businesses penetrating into international market. This has indirectly created high demand of marketing products and services offering internationally. Therefore, understanding consumers’ favourable attitude towards advertising would be the key factor in sustaining effective international marketing. For instant, the globally well known brand “Coca-Cola” which has gotten its image recognized globally due to its standardisation strategy, has said that going localised is the essential key to success by the company’s CEO in Financial Times (27 march 2000). For that reasons, identifying and understanding of these key factors towards whether to standardise or …

Business Plan-Ryanair In The United States, Tessa Davis Jun 2010

Business Plan-Ryanair In The United States, Tessa Davis

Journalism

Traveling within the United States is extremely costly. Low-cost airlines such as Southwest Airlines do exist but they do not provide the prices and efficiency that Ryanair, a United Kingdom based airline, does. Traveling throughout Europe is cheap and easy, jet setting to an Italian villa, when one lives in the middle of London would be considered completely normal. The United States is an enormous country, and unfortunately airline companies and airports do not provide easy, cheap methods of flying around the country. As a student or middle-class citizen, travel throughout the United States should be accessible and viable. If …

Is Premium Pricing Strategy A Viable Option To Pursue Higher Revenue Performance? A Case Study Of Relative Pricing Strategy In The Singapore Lodging Market, Xiaorong Chen

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This is an exploratory research paper on how relative pricing affects an individual hotel’s revenue performance in the Singapore lodging market. First, it measures the REVPAR effects for both a discounting and premium pricing strategy at a local hotel against its competitive set. The findings conclude that a premium pricing strategy is a better way to improve REVPAR performance due to the inelastic nature of the demand curve for hotel rooms in the Singapore market. The findings also show that there is a price limit to a premium pricing strategy, beyond which the growth of REVPAR stagnates because customers were …

This paper provides a teaching model for how to effectively incorporate Critical and Creative Thinking (CCT) methods into a business setting to initiate organizational change. I developed a workshop on workplace meetings based on the imperfections of the marketing team at “ICS.” The workshop touches on CCT methods that are needed in order for organizations to change. I also integrated CCT methods into the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Procedure to enhance productivity and produce results. Integrated marketing is made up of many pieces of the media field, but often the participants in IMC are searching for the same end result. …

Net Metering And Interconnection Standards For Santee Cooper And Three Investor-Owned Utility Companies In South Carolina, Barnes Anderson May 2010

Net Metering And Interconnection Standards For Santee Cooper And Three Investor-Owned Utility Companies In South Carolina, Barnes Anderson

Honors Theses

Net metering and interconnection standards are designed to allow private residential and non-residential electric utility customers to pursue generating some of their own electricity through renewable sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal power. Net metering allows customers to use their own electrical generation to offset their consumption over a billing period by allowing their electric meters to run backwards when they generate electricity in excess of their demand (SC Energy Office, vi). The interconnection standards govern the technical and procedural process by which an electric customer connects an electric-generating system to the electrical grid of their utility company (SC …

Driving Business Performance: Why Marketers Need A Multi-Disciplinary Approach, Knowledge@Smu

Much has been said about Apple's 'magical' ability to command a following for almost anything that they sell (right down to the cables and power adapter). However, few people understand – much less appreciate – the science behind such 'magic'. Some might say that Apple produces some of the most original products. These people forget that Apple did not invent laptops, MP3 players, smart phones or tablet computers. Is it clever marketing then? Perhaps so, but "marketing", as understood in its traditional sense, would not offer the full picture. According to Rajendra K. Srivastava, Provost and Deputy President for Academic …

Junior Mints And Their Bigger Than Bite-Size Role In Complicating Product Placement Assumptions, Stephanie Savage May 2010

Junior Mints And Their Bigger Than Bite-Size Role In Complicating Product Placement Assumptions, Stephanie Savage

Pell Scholars and Senior Theses

This thesis examines the various complications of product placement within television given the general assumption that it always paid for as a means of advertising. Using the popular television sitcom Seinfeld and the infamous 1993 episode, “The Junior Mint,” as an example of non-paid product placement, it is herein argued that the use of this practice should be examined on an individual basis. Furthermore, this thesis seeks to clarify the misassumptions that most people have by arguing against critics who, in defining product placement, often fail to mention any instances in which it is not paid for. Various examples of …

How can a company develop a social media marketing strategy that will prove successful in the long run? Instead …

Enhanced Food Marketing To Children On The Internet: A Content Analysis, Sarah A. Ochsner May 2010

Enhanced Food Marketing To Children On The Internet: A Content Analysis, Sarah A. Ochsner

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

In light of the continuing epidemic of childhood obesity, aggressive food marketing strategies have come under increased scrutiny as a possible contributing factor. It has been acknowledged in numerous studies, that poor nutrient quality of food and beverages dominate children's programming. The growth in child-specific media envoys has further increased favorable opportunities to market food and beverages to children, notably less regulated and parentally unsupervised. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 65% of children aged 6-11 have home access to the Internet; and today, the majority of food manufacturers operate websites appealing to children. The Institute of Medicine issued a …

Publications (E)

Voluntary markets for renewable energy in which consumers purchase renewable energy from their electricity providers or from renewable energy certificate (REC) marketers have existed for more than a decade. Going forward, various factors will influence the development of these markets, including potential climate policies, state and federal renewable portfolio standards (RPS), renewable energy prices, the level of consumer interest in purchasing green power, and the interest on the part of utilities in offering new green options and in continuing to promote existing programs.

This report presents estimates of voluntary market demand for renewable energy or green power through 2015. The …

The Impact Of National Institutional Context On Social Practices: Comparing Finnish And Us Business Communities, Jill M. Purdy, Elizabeth A. Alexander, Stern Neill

Marketing

This paper investigates the impact of national institutional contexts on firms' socially responsible practices, the motives for such practices and methods of organising social practices. Surveys of firms in a liberal market economy (USA) and those in a coordinated market economy (Finland) are compared. Findings indicate that social practices differ between the contexts, providing empirical support for the theory of explicit and implicit forms of corporate social responsibility. The paper offers insight into how social practices are organised in different contexts and a new conceptualisation of the motives for social responsibility. Results suggest that national institutional context should be accounted …

People have competing desires. Hence, people not only chase others` choices due to the need for assimilation but also avoid others` choices due to the need for differentiation. This study attempts to uncover under which conditions consumers assimilate with or differentiate from others` choices. Specifically, the study extends previous research about the effect of others` choices by focusing on the effect of a choice situation (purchase vs. usage) based on the conformity theory and the uniqueness theory. It was found that purchase (vs. usage) situation makes people more conform to others in case of identity-irrelevant product (e.g., USB memory stick). …

Customers often experience waiting for buying service. Managing customers` waiting time is im-portant for service providers since customers who are dissatisfied with waiting, secede from a service place at last. Not a few studies have been done to solve waiting time problem and improve customers` waiting experience. Since customers evaluate the wait using these factors, service provider should manage these factors in order to minimize customers` dissatisfaction. Therefore, this …

This research investigates how online video contests (OVCs) affect brand image, as measured by brand and advertisement attitudes. After conducting a pre-test to discover an appropriate product for the Generation Y target market, we ran an experiment examining OVCs, television, and magazine ad’s effects on multi-item measures of brand and advertisement attitudes. One hundred twenty-one subjects were randomly assigned to one of the three test conditions. The OVC significantly resulted in positive brand attitudes for the hedonic dimension such as feelings and attractiveness of the brand. For the more functional characteristics, OVCs did not influence brand attitudes. OVCs also produced …
