The World Through Young Eyes: A Photo/Essay Exploration Of How Children Perceive Their Environment In The Modern Day, Erin Mulvehill
Renée Crown University Honors Thesis Projects - All
My Capstone project is an exploration of how children perceive their environment. This exploration stems from my curiosity to know what it would have been like to grow up in a different part of the world. This analysis was executed through the mediums of both photography and writing.
Implementing the use of e-mail communication via the Internet, I got in contact with fifth grade teachers from Overseas Schools in countries across the world. The seven countries currently represented in this project areIceland,Poland,Greece,Lebanon,Sri Lanka,Japanand theUnited States of America. Additionally, studies are currently in the process of being conducted inThailand,Burkina Faso, andPeru. …

Giard Fellowship Evokes Enthusiastic Response, Shawn(Ta) Smith-Cruz
Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS)
In his 1997 book, Particular Voices: Portraits of Gay and Lesbian Writers, Robert Giard captures nearly 200 photographs of his contemporaries. Giard's compilation of these portraits of lesbian and gay writers, carefully accompanied with textual excerpts, led this coffee-table monograph to stand as a supreme example of what Giard himself describes as "the autobiography of one gay reader."

On Photographic Violence, Sharon Sliwinski
Data and Test Instruments

Can this particular example of defacement open understanding into the other forms of violence that took place during the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia? How does the image come to be marked by affect but also serve as the medium of its transmission? And finally, why does photography lend itself so easily to …
