This poem explores the shifting rhythms of attention as both a challenge and a gift in the life of a student of medicine. It illuminates the path toward knowledge and healing. This photo, taken in June 2024 at the Northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, captures our fleeting time against that of ocean and rocks.

Cape Kaliakra (“Beautiful Headland”) has been fought over by various tribes and groups across centuries. Succession included the Dacians, Greeks, Ottoman Turks, the Russian Navy, and in the last century, the communist government of Bulgaria. Now a nature reserve, dolphins play off the coast and cormorants seek its updrafts.

Cape Kaliakra sits on the Via Pontica, an ancient Greek road and major bird migration route from Africa into Eastern and Northern Europe.

At the time of Argentina’s independence, the gauchos (nomadic horsemen) had become the symbol of the nation in its purest form. Celebrated as independent, heroic and strong, and usually portrayed as the sole inhabitants of the Pampa, the idealized image of the gaucho has flooded popular culture and art even today, to the detriment of flesh-and-bone wage laborers of all genders. Research on women who have worked in the field of photography in Spain is recent and has developed mostly in the 21st century. Still in 2025, we don’t have a book that includes them all. Outside Spain, they are completely unknown.

Here we present, as a case of study, a French woman who doesn’t fit into the rules of her time: Marie-Agnèse-Anastasie Clemandot (Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, 1807 – Paris, 1876).
