This project aimed to explore the historical and cultural significance of Carnival in Venice, the festival preceding Lent that is characterized by a temporary breakdown of the social order. The main elements of Carnival include mask-wearing, elaborate costumes, and artistic showcases, especially theater and street performances. In particular, the 16th-century practice of commedia dell’arte is revived during the Carnival, featuring iconic masked characters and humorous storylines. In the current global political climate, where people are more divided than ever, Carnival is an escape from the drags of everyday life. Graduate Artistry Projects and Performances

Concrete Crumbles examines instability within contemporary American political and social life through photography, collage, and installation. Using construction zones and damaged infrastructure as primary subject matter, the project investigates how material transformation and fragmentation can function as metaphors for political precarity, media saturation, and the erosion of civic stability. Photographs are printed on copy paper, physically cut, rearranged, collaged, and scanned into unstable compositions that resist fixed perspective and seamless representation. These processes emphasize labor, impermanence, and reconstruction while challenging photography’s traditional association with objectivity and permanence.

Part of the Family examines television as both a domestic object and a cultural force. TV was not simply something my family watched, but something we lived with. Through CRT televisions, VHS recordings, family photographs, altered TV Guides, fictional broadcasts, and immersive living-room installations, the project explores how television shaped memory, kinship, attention, and belonging in the American home. In Silvi Glattauer’s photographic practice nothing is set, time, light and landscape are each staged in unexpected ways. An image is never singular: often literally composed from multiple exposures, always taken through multiple processes, and always opening a dialogue with the rich history of her own work and the work of other artists. For Glattauer photography, and more particularly printmaking, isn’t about fixing an image it is about opening it up. It is work marked by nimble curiosity and although it is often technically startling it is never about technique, rather, it is about an ethic of slow looking.

My work explores the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit, focusing on Johnson City, TN—a place shaped by both history and personal memory. Through film photography and archival materials, I document landscapes and interiors that hold traces of past and present lives, revealing how time often alters place and perception.

I use photography to explore absence, where sediment in melting ice helps create a visual record of the ice’s existence. I begin by harvesting ice from nearby Antelope Creek, transporting it to the studio, and placing it on photo-sensitive paper or film. The natural traces of dust frozen in the water remain visible on the surfaces after the ice melts. Ice thus becomes an entropic medium to index, translate, and record what is left behind when the ice melts, water evaporates, and floods subside in the midst of drought conditions.

This paper briefly explores a small section of the Gettysburg Community in 1955, and focuses on the residential and business related life of York Street. With the life and work of Walter Lane, a local photographer, providing the lens to explore York Street, the community of 1955 York Street is uniquely highlighted through a hypothetical “week in the life” of the photographer.
