Plausible Expositions With Possible Expeditions, Nikolaus D. James

Influenced by video games and cinema, in this body of work, Plausible Expositions with Possible Expeditions, I use objects to create scenarios that suggest a narrative. The scenes are then photographed and displayed through cathode-ray tube televisions and viewers use their own knowledge and ideas about the objects to create that narrative. Each of these objects has is own data set, and the most common have a universal data set—information surrounding the object that is widely recognized, much like how a crowbar is commonly associated with crime. This long-form journalistic story and photo essay is about the Blackfoot Tribes in the United States and Canada and their efforts to restore bison to their land, their diet, and their culture. In 2014, ten tribes from the United States and Canada came together at Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana to sign the Buffalo Treaty, a commitment to bringing wild buffalo back to parts of their historical range. The Treaty signing marked the first time in more than 150 years that a diverse group of tribes, some historical enemies, came together in the name of restoring the animal they evolved …

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอวิธีการระบุสารสีด้วยเทคนิคทางภาพถ่ายที่ใช้รังสียูวีและแสงขาว โดยแบ่งแสงขาวออกเป็นแสงที่มีความยาวคลื่นแคบ 13 ช่องสัญญาณ และช่องสัญญาณแสงขาวโทนอุ่นกับโทนเย็นอีก 2 ช่องสัญญาณ ถ่ายผ่านแผ่นกรองแสงที่ให้แสงขาว รังสียูวี และรังสีอินฟราเรดผ่าน งานวิจัยนี้ได้นำเทคนิคนี้มาประยุกต์กับสารสีของเครเมอร์จำนวน 356 สารสี โดยแบ่งการทดลองออกเป็น 2 ส่วน ส่วนแรกเป็นการสร้างฐานข้อมูลจากภาพถ่ายสารสีภายใต้แอลอีดีจำนวน 15 ช่องสัญญาณผ่านแผ่นกรองแสงที่ให้แสงขาว รังสียูวี และรังสีอินฟราเรดผ่าน สารสีทั้ง 356 สารสี ถูกแบ่งออกเป็น 7 กลุ่มจากการปรากฏสีภายใต้แสงขาว ได้แก่ ม่วง น้ำเงิน เขียว เหลือง ส้ม แดง และกลุ่มสุดท้ายรวมขาว เทา ดำ และน้ำตาลไว้ด้วยกัน จากนั้นจัดทำแผนผังเพื่อระบุสารสีโดยสังเกตการปรากฏสีภายใต้แอลอีดีจำนวน 15 ช่องสัญญาณลดหลั่นกันจากแสงขาวโทนอุ่น แสงขาวโทนเย็น แสงสีที่ความยาวคลื่นสั้นและสิ้นสุดที่ความยาวคลื่นยาว ส่วนที่สองเป็นการประยุกต์วิธีที่ทำขึ้นในส่วนแรกเข้ากับสีทดสอบโดยอ้างอิงผลกับฐานข้อมูลที่สร้างขึ้นและยืนยันผลกับเทคนิคสเปกตรัมค่าการสะท้อนแสงและสเปกตรัมรามานสเปกโทรสโกปี ผลในส่วนแรกพบว่าสารสีที่อยู่ทุกกลุ่มสีสามารถถูกแยกออกเป็นกลุ่มที่เล็กลง และสารสีบางชนิดสามารถระบุได้โดยตรง เช่น สีม่วงสามารถระบุสารสี Fluorescent violet pigment, Han purple, Studio pink pigment, Alizarine Violet และ Hostaperm pink ได้โดยตรงโดยไม่มีสารสีอื่นอยู่ในกลุ่มทั้งนี้พบว่าสารสีชื่อเดียวกันต่างเพียงความเข้มถูกแยกออกจากกันด้วยลำดับของช่องสัญญาณที่ต่างกัน สาเหตุอาจมาจากการสะท้อนแสงของกระดาษฐานไปยังเซนเซอร์ของกล้องไม่เท่ากันเนื่องจากความโปร่งแสงต่างกัน ผลการทดลองในส่วนที่สองพบว่าการนำวิธีข้างต้นมาระบุสารสีทดสอบ 4 สารสี สามารถระบุสีเขียว Chrome oxide สีแดง Cinnabar สีน้ำตาล Red ochre ได้ ซึ่งได้ยืนยันผลความถูกต้องของผลด้วยวิธีสเปกตรัมการสะท้อนแสงและรามานสเปกโทรสโกปี

Arts communities are currently reevaluating and restructuring power dynamics within their systems to accommodate a broader range of experience and subjectivity. However, the forces of control are still largely dictated by a broader patriarchal culture. This complicated, tangled dynamic is the focus of my research. Female artists who make work about men or about patriarchy more generally, are consistently subjected to its influence as the dominant cultural experience—the invisible “truth” that everything either is, or acts in reaction to its position. The waterfronts of New York City have seen dramatic transformation and development over the past several decades. Developers have taken advantage of the coveted real estate space and constructed glass monoliths along Manhattan’s shores on the East and Hudson Rivers.

More recent developments in Long Island City and Williamsburg’s waterfront have seen waterfronts transform, and neighborhoods are unrecognizable from where they used to be. But as development continues in those areas, many developers are being priced out, and the Bronx is the logical next step in the process.

(in)Equality. centers around my experiences as a transnational person and those around me who have affected my current concept of equality and cultural histories. My visual methodologies cover digital photography and editing, inkjet printing, and laser engraving: multimedia in a process of new discovery, translation between analog and digital, and rearticulation. The exhibition includes portraits peering down from above, illuminated by projected patterns and manipulated messages from Nike’s “Equality.” (2017). Derek P. McCormack (2010) argues, "Affect, is like an atmosphere: it might not be visible, but at any given point it might be sensed ... Emotion, in turn, can be understood as the sociocultural expression of this felt intensity" (643). This paper puts McCormack (2010) and Ben Anderson (2009) into conversation to think through the ways in which atmosphere in relation to affective and emotive life has been conceptualized. I center the affective atmospheres that happen with queer bodies that make New York's west side piers queerly affective. Photography’s power in capturing a moment in history is indisputable, but inevitably flawed. Assumptions of objectivity and truth are made that do not count for the bias of the photographer, or the bias of the viewer. These assumptions do not explain the warped effect of freezing life at a fraction of a second. Information is left outside the frame; stories are fragmented in their retelling. Certain historical photographs have become iconic over time. My interest lies in images of American battle, violence, and trauma; those that have political and propagandic weight. The photographer discusses her work in “BLAZE,” a Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibit held at the Tipton Gallery from September 16th through October 4th, 2019. The exhibition consists of 11 archival inkjet prints, two photographic artist books, a nine-channel video installation, representing the artist’s exploration of how to experience the landscape. Using non-traditional approaches to photographic imagery, experimental exhibition layout, the artist forms questions around themes of walking and landscape. The artist investigates sculptural land art installations represented through photographic documentation. A catalog of the exhibit is included at the end of this thesis.

This paper examines the efforts put forth by Eliza Hatch, who is an established photojournalist and activist, which pertain to women’s rights and sexual harassment all over the world. Hatch has a multitude of projects dealing with sexual harassment and the unequal treatment of women all across the globe. She is mainly based in London and New York, but has also completed projects in Sri Lanka. Through her activistic career, which began in 2017, she has garnered ample media attention and has raised awareness regarding the issues she tackles in her projects. The Northwest Immigrant Rights Program has been around for 35 years, started in 1984 specifically to help Central American refugees during the mid-1980s, when they were fleeing civil wars. A pro-bono group of attorneys performing "direct legal representation", helping low income community members who are navigating different aspects of the immigration system. NWIRP also engages in "systemic advocacy" which attempts to change systems and policies revolving around asylum and immigration rights.

Through The Words Of Those Who Have Experienced It: Reading The Whitney Plantation Along Neoslave Narratives, Sarah Payne

Study the South

Recent representations of slavery, however well intentioned, have provoked discussions about who should represent black pain and oppression and what purpose such representations serve. Also evoking such questions are contemporary plantation tours, most of which are white-centered, “moonlight and magnolia” recreations. There have been efforts to represent slavery more accurately at plantations such as Oak Alley, and most notably, the Whitney Plantation, which opened in 2014 in Wallace, Louisiana.
