Santo Tomás Apóstol De Abiquiú Church, Abiquiú, New Mexico - Burial Register Extractions 1777-1827, Samuel Sisneros

University Libraries Staff Publications

This dataset was created as part of a recovery project of several New Mexico Catholic Church registers that were missing since 1933 or perhaps earlier. The registers contain entries of parishioners being baptized, married and receiving burial rites at the church of Santo Tomás Apóstol de Abiquiú, Abiquiú, New Mexico. Using the recent digitization and description of a WWI German soldier’s scrapbook, we will examine how students are incorporated into the overall workflow, often bringing needed skills to the project and gaining valuable hands-on experience with archival materials, scanning equipment and software, and metadata creation.

Habsburg's Last War: The Filmic Memory (1918 to the Present)

This untapped body of film records a contentious phase in world history, from the perspective of an often misunderstood, yet pivotal, region. The volume gathers scholarly essays exploring the intersections between the political, historical, and aesthetic, as expressed in the region’s various “moving pictures,” with sustained attention to the relationship between artistic representation and collective memory.

Amy Biehl’S Last Home : A Bright Life, A Tragic Death, And A Journey Of Reconciliation In South Africa, Steven D. Gish

Ohio University Press Open Access Books

In 1993, white American Fulbright scholar Amy Biehl was killed in a racially motivated attack near Cape Town, after spending months working to promote democracy and women’s rights in South Africa. The ironic circumstances of her death generated enormous international publicity and yielded one of South Africa’s most heralded stories of postapartheid reconciliation. Amy’s parents not only established a humanitarian foundation to serve the black township where she was killed, but supported amnesty for her killers and hired two of the young men to work for the Amy Biehl Foundation. The Biehls were hailed as heroes by Nelson Mandela, Desmond …
